"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim tribute to patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness -- these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. . . . reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles."

Haven't we already established that the entire system is corrupt, bought and paid for? Money owns politics and buys politicians, certain trends continue no matter who is in office, and nobody seems to have any real solutions. I guess what I mean to say is that it should be obvious that this problem is much bigger than just Obama. Do you think the people really pulling the strings would put themselves in the spotlight like that? The same people are continuing to cause the same problems that create the same downward spiral in our economy, and that is all. Obama is nothing but the front man.

The "War on Poverty" is and always has been about only one thing!

It would appear the war on poverty is about equalizing poverty for all, not eradicating it.

It's deliberate.

Of course.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

May 3, 2016 - the day the Republican party left ME.  I am now without a Party, and quite possibly without a country.  May God have mercy!

Of course.

More in poverty=more Democrat voters.

The only reason a politician does anything is to help himself.

Perhaps a more appropriate name would have been "The Business of Poverty". "War" was a misnomer.

Because putting into place the apparatus to "service" the poor, created what has become essentially a production line -- churning out "poverty" in ever-increasing numbers.

There's no longer any pretense about "moving up" folks OUT OF "poverty". Rather, the core of this business is "servicing" the poor, and its success is measured by the number of poor who require such services.

By that measure, the Business of Poverty has been a smashing success with unprecedented growth.

What's that you say?
Reduce the number of poor requiring our services?
Are you crazy?
That will put US out of work and out of business.

exactly.  the same "equalizing" that communism/socialism has accomplished in those countries unlucky enough to be infested for too long with such parasites.  Reminds me a little bit of what the Aussies call tall poppy syndrome (at least that's where I heard it):  anyone with the temerity to stick his head too far above those of his fellows - to strive too hard to get ahead - gets it chopped off.

The same is true of any government enterprise you wish to name!

They have every motivation to exacerbate the problem they were created to solve and zero motivation to actually solve the problem. The second they do that they are all out of a job!

Are you sure it isn't global warming? :silly:

The War on Poverty is about making everyone equally impoverished and dependent on government.

Exactly.

You can take that statement to the bank too.

Life in Cuba was all about everyone being equally hungry.

Here's a humble offering to illustrate that point:
