We Need Common Sense Gun Control -Take Guns Away From Democrats

So. I opened my newsletter from the Sportsmen’s Association for Firearms Education and on the first page there was an article titled, “Sensible Gun Control” by Marilyn Cohen. Ms. Cohen, a former anti-gun advocate, has recently been re-elected to serve on the NRA Board of Directors. Her comments are worth reading, therefore, I’ve reprinted the introduction to her comments from the newsletter and summarized the rest – it’s a good read, especially for those of us stuck in New York.

“In 1865, a Democrat shot and killed Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States. In 1881, a left wing radical Democrat shot James Garfield, President of the United States, who later died from his wound. In 1963, a radical left wing socialist shot and killed John F. Kennedy, President of the United States. In 1975, a left wing radical Democrat shot and wounded Ronald Reagan, President of the United States.”

“In 1984, James Hubert, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 22 people in a McDonalds (sic) restaurant. In 1986, Patrick Sherrill, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 15 people in an Oklahoma post office. In 1990, James Pough, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 10 people at a GMAC office. In 1991, George Hennard, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 23 people in Luby’s cafeteria in Killeen, Texas. In 1995, James Daniel Simpson, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 5 coworkers in a Texas laboratory. In 1999, Larry Asbrook, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 8 people at a church service.”

“In 2001, a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at the White House in a failed attempt to kill George W. Bush, President of the United States. In 2003, Douglas Williams, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people at a Lockheed Martin plant. In 2007, a registered Democrat named Seung-Hui Cho, shot and killed 32 people in Virginia Tech. In 2010, a mentally ill, registered Democrat named Jared Lee Loughner, shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed 6 others.” [Remember how the left blamed the Tea Party and Sarah Palin?]

“In 2011, a registered Democrat named James Holmes, went into a movie theater and shot and killed 12 people. In 2012, Andrew Engeldinger, a disgruntled democrat, shot and killed 7 people in Minneapolis. In 2013, a registered Democrat named Adam Lanza, shot and killed 26 people in a school in Newtown, Ct. As recently as September 2013, an angry Democrat shot 12 at a Navy ship yard.”

“Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats and guns. Not one NRA member, Tea Party member, or Republican conservative was involved in any of these shootings and murders. SOLUTION:  It should be illegal for most Democrats to own guns.”

I have to interject here. How much more logical is it for people on the left to say the solution to criminals having guns is to take guns away from law-abiding citizens? Tight gun laws do not necessarily correlate with decreased gun crimes – take Chicago for example. That’s not to say we shouldn’t have gun regulations and gun control laws. Of course we should but we need to keep our Second Amendment, even if it’s only to protect us from disgruntled Democrats.

Back to Ms. Cohen. Besides bringing up the absurdity of the leftist arguments against guns, Ms. Cohen talked about the NYSRPA lawsuit against the SAFE Act, Governor Cuomo’s oppressive gun law.

The Federal Court kicked the SAFE Act lawsuit back to State Court. The sought-after injunction was rejected. It is in the 2nd Circuit Court but the case has been prepared for the Supreme Court.

People can go to NY Safe Act website to get updates and information on what is still allowed.

Also from Ms. Cohen is this anecdotal story from NY.

Did you know that Paul A. Wojdan was arrested in October 2013 in Lockport NY for having 10 bullets in the magazine of his legally-owned gun?  The gun was inside the glove compartment of a car he was a passenger in and it was not used in a crime. During a traffic stop, officers counted the bullets in the gun. This is the part of the law that was eventually struck down in NYS courts.

These gun fanatics are making criminals out of innocent people.

His case was dismissed. Chalk up one victory!

Gun control fanatics met on the Million Dollar Staircase recently to voice support for the SAFE Act and demand additional restrictions. [They won't stop until there is no Second Amendment]

They want laws to include locked storage of all guns when not in possession of the owner, micro-stamping capabilities for ammunition for all semiautomatic guns with an alpha-numeric code for tracking purposes. A woman whose son was shot and killed by a friend during a play date in a home with an unlocked gun is pushing for a law named for her son – Nicholas’s law. It would require a trigger lock or locked storage.  It could result in a felony conviction and it could easily be abused by a government that wants to do so.

It would be nice if gun control advocates and Second Amendment advocates could work together.

Recently, the NRA filed a Friend of the Court brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. This brief supports  the ACLU’s request for reversal of a decision by the US District Court for the Southern District of NY that upheld the NSA’s data collection program.

The NRA makes two points on the issue:
•The NSA’s mass data collection violates the First Amendment’s freedom of association protection because individuals will be chilled from joining certain groups – like NRA – that have been the target of hostility by others, including certain public officials, and identify their members’ private social, political or religious beliefs to the government.
•The data collection programs could undermine privacy protections in federal law that prohibits creating a registry of firearms or firearm owners.

The government claims that metadata is not invasive though at least one recent study shows the collection of metadata reveals a great deal of information about the targeted person. Medical conditions and firearm ownership are two pieces of information that metadata can expose. The metadata enabled volunteers to determine people who were interested in firearms, specifically AR-15 pattern profiles.

All of this could be avoided if we just took guns away from violent Democrats. Okay, I admit I’m kidding.

I have another question, who in their right mind would give Governor Cuomo a gun?
