With so many deadly infanticides cases in the news recently, it’s good news to hear of a baby in an infanticide case who has survived.
Greenville, South Carolina, a woman has been charged after a homeowner found a newborn infant in a trash can outside the home. Greenville police said a homeowner was there to check on the house when he noticed a trail of blood leading to a trash can. The homeowner found bloody towels and a baby wrapped in a trash bag — still alive but in critical condition.
Police say they do not know how long the infant was in the trash can after birth but they have taken the baby’s mother into custody. 28-year-old Sharon Ferguson was apprehended by police after questioning nearby.
A local television news station has more on what’s going on this case:
Ferguson was later charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person. Her bond was set at $125,000.
Public Relations Director for the South Carolina Department of Social Services Marilyn Matheus said the baby was in “good condition” on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Matheus, the child will go into foster care before a hearing will be held where DSS will most likely take the child into custody.
She said a notice for parental rights will then go out to give the child’s parents a chance to come forward to claim the boy.
If no one comes forward or is not eligible to take care of the child, the baby will be put up for adoption, according to Matheus.

Officer Johnathan Bragg said Ferguson was brought to the hospital on Tuesday after she requested to go. He said she refused treatment on Monday.
A neighbor of Ferguson’s said they could not tell she was pregnant, wearing the same clothes most every day.http://www.lifenews.com/2014/04/23/newborn-baby-recovering-after-found-in-trash-can-outside-home/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+lifenews%2Fnewsfeed+%28LifeNews.com%29
