John McCain mocks Joe Biden: ‘Or else what?’

Sen. John McCain was unimpressed with Vice President Joe Biden’s comments in Ukraine on Tuesday and the Arizona Republican suggested that the Obama administration was not backing up its tough talk against Russia.

Speaking in Ukraine, the vice president said that “we call on Russia to stop supporting men hiding behind masks in unmarked uniforms sewing unrest in eastern Ukraine.” McCain, appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Tuesday, responded to Biden’s remarks with a question: “Or else what?”

“Or else what?” McCain repeated. “If they continue to do this, what will we do?”

The Senate Armed Services Committee member has been a frequent critic of the Obama administration on many foreign policy issues, including Ukraine and Syria. On Tuesday, McCain said the administration needs to show greater support for Ukraine and back up its rhetoric. He also urged the White House to “tell the American people why it’s important that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s aggression not continue.”

“It’s time we said the people of Ukraine deserve free and fair elections, they deserve our support,” McCain said.

He also said that President Barack Obama “does not appreciate, in my view, the importance of American leadership.”

This is out of control partisanship. If McCain made that point in private, that's acceptable. Openly mocking the office of the VP, even though the current office holder is less than capable, is unacceptable.

I for one am glad to see a Republican show some guts in public.  Asking the current office holder what he intends to do to back up his threats is mocking the office itself?

With regard to respecting the office, what exactly does that mean?  Here's some food for thought.

He didn't mock or show disrespect to the office. He responded to Biden's "tough talk" with a simple question. Biden and Obama make a show of making threats with nothing to back them up. McCain, to his credit, simply asked what the implications of an apparent threat might be.

Disagree strongly.

When the president AND the vice president both exhibit incompetence at the levels which they now do, "mocking" them is ENTIRELY appropriate.

More than that, it is NECESSARY.

Who was the leader who made the remark to the effect, that "war is politics continued by other means" ??

My reply:
"Politics is war continued by other means."

This is [political] war.
Time to start fighting with all we've got.

The other side knows this, and that's what they do.
Why do we simply take it?

Adendum:
How many here agree (or disagree) with Joe Wilson's "You lie!" exclamation during the State-of-the-Union speech a few years' back?
Was that "disrespectful" ???
