Only 4% of Previously Uninsured Sign up for Healthcare Insurance

Posted 1 hour ago by Giacomo Filed under ObamaCare

Do you remember being told that the number one main reason for the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was to provide healthcare coverage for uninsured Americans?  According to the New York Times, as of September 2013 the number of uninsured Americans was 48 million or 15.4% of the population.

No matter how you look at it, Obamacare is far from reaching its main goal.  To begin with, Obama is now claiming that the number of enrollees in Obamacare has reached 8 million.  However, we know that those are inflated and inaccurate figures as it does not take into account the number of people that did not complete their enrollment for one reason or another and it does not take into account the number of people that have yet to make their first payment.

But let’s give Obama the benefit of the doubt and say there really are 8 million people who signed up for Obamacare.  If all of them were previously uninsured, that’s only 16.7% of the previously uninsured that now have insurance.

The problem for Obama is that it’s not the uninsured that are signing up for Obamacare.  A recent Gallup poll of over 20,000 people indicated that only 4% of the previously uninsured have purchased healthcare coverage.  If that figure is accurate, or least as accurate as Obama’s 8 million enrollees, that means that only 1.92 million previously uninsured now have insurance.

But wait!  Of that paltry 4% of newly insured Americans, only 2.1% got their healthcare insurance through an Obamacare exchange and the other 1.9% went to an outside source for their new coverage.  So now that further reduces the number of previously insured who purchased healthcare through Obamacare enrollment to 1.008 million Americans.

Finally, even if 1.9 million previously uninsured Americans are now insured, that doesn’t make up for the 4-6 million who had their previous policies cancelled, does it?  Face it, no matter how you juggle or play with the figures or cook the books like Obama does, Obamacare is still a complete failure.
