California is this week's target on President Barack Obama’s latest fundraising tour as he raises money for the Democratic Party and to receives a "Ambassador for Humanity" award from Steven Spielberg at a Holocaust memorial event, according to the Associated Press.

California is one of six key states that the Democratic Party is targeting for the 2014 primary elections. Obama will raise money for the Democratic National Committee and the House and Senate arms of the party. His fundraising hosts include Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn, billionaire and former Qualcomm Chairman Irwin Jacobs, and Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, according to the AP.

Following a recent devastating House special election loss for Democrats in Florida, many prognosticators were predicting Democrats could even lose seats, according to the Hill.

In November of last year, President Obama embarked on a three-day West Coast tour, where he attended seven fundraisers which included Magic Johnson’s Los Angeles home, the Betty Ong Chinese Recreation Center in San Francisco, and the DreamWorks Animation facility in Glendale, California.

The AP reports that among party donors for Obama’s latest California trip are members of the high-tech industry, many of whom have been unnerved by revelations of spying by the National Security Agency and have demanded assurances that Obama is committed to privacy protections.

A Quinnippiac National Poll taken at the beginning of the year reveals that American voters rate Obama's leadership on the economy, job creation, and healthcare as very poor, citing his only positive marks as coming from fighting terrorism.

The Ambassador for Humanity Award, from the University of Southern California's Shoah Foundation, was founded by Spielberg. Last year’s recipient was actor George Clooney.

So the next two recipients will be Reggie Love and Bobby Titcomb?   :pondering:
