Bomb Squad Detonates Bags Left Near Boston Marathon Finish Line

The area near the finish line of the Boston Marathon was evacuated Tuesday night after two bags were left at the finish line.

The two suspicious bags were left near the photo bridge on Boylston Street. The street was shut down between Fairfield and Dartmouth streets while police investigated.

WBZ-TV photographers on scene say they saw a person with the backpack screaming “Boston Strong” before police cleared everyone from the area.

Witnesses say the person was barefoot, wearing a long black veil and was acting strange. Boston Police say one man has been taken into custody.

The Bomb Squad inspected the bag left behind the photo bridge and detonated it just before 9:00 p.m. The second bag was detonated about 40 minutes later.

Copley Station on the Green Line is closed while police investigate.
One year ago, three people died, and more than 260 people were injured when two bombs exploded near the finish line of the marathon. Earlier in the day, Vice President Joe Biden joined survivors, and victim’s families for a moment of silence at 2:49 p.m., the same time the bombs exploded a year ago.

The bag was found just minutes after the Norden brothers, who are survivors of last year’s attack, completed a relay walk along the 26.2 mile course.

Boston bomb hoaxer left confetti-filled rice cooker on street

A deranged man in woman’s clothing caused a nightmare flashback Tuesday when he rushed the finish line of the Boston Marathon with an apparent hoax bomb made out of a confetti-filled rice cooker, reports said.

Kayvon Edson, 25, raced toward the spot shouting “Boston Strong” around 7 p.m. – just hours after a service commemorating the one-year anniversary of last year Marathon bombing that killed 3.

He was wearing the dress and a long black veil, according to CBS Boston.

Edson told police officers that he was an art student and the rice cooker in his bag was a “prop,” according to a witness.

Police told pedestrians to evacuate and locked down the area while they detonated the rice cooker and a second bag that belonged to a media outlet and happened to be filled with camera equipment.

Edson was charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and possession of a hoax device, CBS Boston said.

Edson has posted a series of bizarre videos online that appear to be attempts to make avant-garde films. In them the art student can be seen wearing the costumes and spouting nonsense.

On his Facebook meanwhile, he has a photo of accused Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev connected to a page protesting his innocence.

Honestly, why isn’t terrorism one of the charges?  It does not have to be a working  bomb if the intent was to strike fear.    He is a danger to society and  he needs to be locked up, be it  prison or a mental institution.
