Attacking Jews is fine, but attacking Muslims is not, apparently

It appears that anyone who speaks up about the horrors perpetrated against women in the Middle East is an “Islamophobe,” according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

CAIR has succeeded in convincing Brandeis University to not give human rights advocate Ayaan Hirsi Ali an honorary degree because the Muslim-born woman speaks out about how women are treated in the Middle East.

CAIR wrote Tuesday to Brandeis President Frederick M. Lawrence, accusing Ali of “spew[ing] anti-Muslim hate” and “call[ing] for violence against the entire Muslim world.”

As evidence, CAIR noted an interview Ali gave to Reason Magazine, citing several quotes from Ali to paint her as an extremist and racist.
Forget the fact that Ali was raised in a religious family in North Africa, forget the fact that she suffered female genital mutilation as a child and forget the fact that she fled to escape an arranged marriage. And that she received death threats from Islamist extremists for her role in "Submission," a short film about abuse of women in the Muslim world. The film's producer, her friend Theo Van Gogh, was assassinated in 2004 by an Islamist extremist.

Of course, ignore the fact that Ali also said the reason that Islam must be defeated is “ecause right now, the political side of Islam, the power-hungry expansionist side of Islam, has become superior to the Sufis and the Ismailis and the peace-seeking Muslims.”

Ali said in that interview that the current state of Islam must be defeated so that it can “mutate into something peaceful.”

CAIR also asked if Brandeis would "remain silent if a similar honor was offered to an individual who said 'we are at war with Judaisms,' that all Jewish schools in America should be closed and that the Constitution should be changed to deny rights to members of the Jewish community?"

Funny thing about that is, Brandeis honored Tony Kushner and Desmond Tutu, both of whom espoused anti-Jewish sentiments.

Brandeis' official reason for caving to CAIR was that the university could not “overlook certain of her past statements that are inconsistent with Brandeis University's core values.”

So, it's okay to attack the Jewish community, but Muslims are off-limits? Such diversity, especially given the fact that Brandeis is named after the first Jewish Supreme Court justice, Louis Brandeis, a champion of free speech.
