Many years ago I worked with a man from the Phillipines.  This was before obamaphones.  When illegal aliens were affectionately known as "wetbacks".
He was discussing the American "poor".  He said Americans have not the slightest idea of what poverty is.
Why?  Well, because I'm a bastard, that's why.

That is so true. In the seventies, a Vietnamese relocated to my area through a local church. I worked with him, and he could not believe his riches. We found out later that when he came here, his wife had two diapers that she would wash over and over. It was the same way with clothing. He said that one paycheck was more than me made in many months.

When he came here, his home and utilities were paid until he could afford them. He considered himself rich, and was amazed at all the bi*tching about poverty, and even co workers who were dissatisfied with the hard work and "low" pay. He is richer than many of us in more ways than material things.
