Jimmy Carter Supports Terrorist Ambassador to the UN

By Onan Coca   / 5 April 2014   / 60 Comments

President Jimmy Carter is getting up there in years, but he’s still making public statements about American political policies. He’s trended towards anti-Semitism for years, but his latest statement makes one wonder if he is also trending towards senility.

The nation of Iran is attempting to name a former terrorist as their new ambassador to the United Nations. Iran would like Hamid Aboutalebi to be allowed entrance into the United States to serve as their ambassador to the UN, This is problematic for the Obama administration because Aboutalebi was one of the terrorist college students who, back in 1979, took many Americans hostage at the American embassy in Tehran, Iran.

Not only would his legal entrance into our nation be a slight to the hostages and their families, but Aboutalebi’s involvement (and lack of regret) in the assault on our embassy gives a clear picture of how much he respects diplomacy with the West.

None of that seems to matter to President Carter.

When asked if the USA should block Aboutalebi entrance into the US, Carter responded with typical liberal squishiness.

Iran“You know, those were college students at that time, and I think that they have matured. …I think it would be inappropriate for the United States to try to block someone that Iran wanted to choose.”

No, Mr. President, it wouldn’t be inappropriate for us to block someone Iran wanted to choose – if they’ve formerly committed terrorist actions against our nation. Many terrorists grow older and do not mature away from their radicalization. Age does not automatically lead to wisdom or moderation.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) had a much more rational response to Iran’s choice of a terrorist as ambassador to the United Nations.

“It is unconscionable that, in the name of international diplomatic protocol, the United States would be forced to host a foreign national who showed a brutal disregard for the status of our diplomats when they were stationed in his country.”
