TWO post-impressionist masterpieces worth an estimated $45 million that were stolen from a London home in 1970 have been recovered by Italian police from the kitchen of a retired car worker in Sicily.

The stolen works — Fruits sur une Table, ou Nature au Petit Chien(Fruit on a Table, or Still Life with a Small Dog) by Paul Gauguin, and La Femme aux Deux Fauteuils(Woman with Two Armchairs) by Pierre Bonnard — were unveiled in Rome by the Carabinieri art squad.
