Edit:  Clearly "a few minutes" is a relative term.

Lt. General Mark Milley, commander of Ft. Hood is speaking.

Shooting started at roughly 4:00PM.

Lock down lifted.

Police engaged the shooter who then killed himself.

They do not see any links to terrorism, but "nothing has been ruled out."  FBI, AFT, local PD, Texas Rangers, Texas DPS, Army CID, etc. are assisting.

16 injured, 3 dead, not counting the shooter.

Shooter was being evaluated for mental heath issues/PTSD/traumatic brain injury.  Was on medication.

They have not notified his next of kin, so they will not release his name.

He served 4 months in Iraq in 2011.

Shooting occurred at two different buildings, the shooter drove from one location to another.

Shooter was using a S&W .45 caliber automatic pistol.

Arrived at Ft. Hood in February.

He was in a parking lot when engaged by military police; shot himself in the head when confronted.

Again refused to rule out terrorism, although nothing is pointing to it at this time.

Was not wounded in action nor has a Purple Heart.

All casualties were military.

I'm not military, so it doesn't affect me, but not allowing people who are TRAINED to use weapons to carry weapons makes no sense.

And I've never heard a satisfactory explanation as to why not.

But, it's their asses.  More exactly, it was three asses today who couldn't defend themselves and lost their lives needlessly.

I really do think it's some of the commanders who fear getting shot over some of the trivia the military hierarchy dishes out.

If we ever have combat from a foreign nation on our soil, it will be easy for them to destroy our military bases. During times like we are living in, our soldiers should be armed to the hilt!

'It was clearly heroic what she did. She did her job and she did exactly what we would expect from a US military police,' he said, though didn't identify her.

Milley confirmed the married shooter had served in Iraq for four months in 2011, and was being treated for depression and anxiety. He was also in the process of being assessed for post traumatic stress disorder, though Milley insisted he had not yet been officially diagnosed.
