A search for a missing mother and daughter in North Las Vegas has uncovered a gruesome crime scene leading to a family member's arrest.

Police believe Darius Davon Sorrells, 30, killed his mother and sister then butchered at least one of their bodies before living in their home for days as their remains decomposed.

Natasha Sorrells, 34, and Janice Burden, 53, identified by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, had not been heard from since around Wednesday when an officer visited their home early Monday.

Though police had repeatedly visited the home over the weekend to make contact with the women, this time they reported finding a backdoor left open.

"Without going into great detail, there is a lot of evidence," Sgt. Chrissie Coon said at a Monday afternoon press conference, according to the Journal.

Coon described it as a "pretty gruesome homicide," with at least one victim dismembered. The weapon used has not been identified but police said it was not a gun.

"It appears, based on the timeframe and the evidence in the house that the murder suspect was probably in the home with these women deceased for several days," Coon said. "Steps were taken to try to clean up the crime scene and contain evidence."

Once authorities were able to identify the bodies they then went to work looking for Sorrells' brother and Burden's son.

Fortunately for police they found him already behind bars on an unrelated traffic charge from over the weekend.

In that early Saturday morning incident he was allegedly seen driving drunk by police, leading to a wild chase. Sorrells crashed into a light pole as police tailed him and he was captured after attempting to flee on foot.

"It was unclear at the time why he ran from police," said Coon. Also unclear on Tuesday was a motive for the slayings.

A neighbor of the family told the Review-Journal that Sorrells "creeped everybody out" and would often peer into the windows of other homes.

"As bad as this might sound, I wasn't surprised," another neighbor, Sheldon Jacobs, told the paper. "That was the kind of vibe I got from this guy."

He was rebooked into the Las Vegas City Jail and charged with two counts of murder.
