Someone needs to remind Mr. Israel of how many rats (no pun intended) are fleeing ship from his side of the aisle as well.

The DCCC is the scum of the political universe.

Mr. Israel is desperate for cover. The dims are retiring because they'll probably lose their seats anyway. The GOPers retiring are mostly committee chairmen who are being term limited out of their chairman positions.
The GOP term limits on chairmanships works better than term limits for Congress as a whole IMO. This gives them time to work their way into a position of real power, but limits the time they can wield that power. It's enough time for them to do something useful, but not enough for them to abuse the position. And retiring at the peak of power is not a bad idea. Win-win, I'd say.
