Los Angeles County is the most populous county in the nation, with more than 10 million residents partly due to an influx of legal and illegal immigrants.

According to census figures, L.A. County has an estimated "10,017,068 residents," which is "nearly twice as many as the next largest: Cook County in Illinois, which had an estimated 5,240,700 people."

The Los Angeles Times reports that what pushed Los Angeles County past the "10-million mark was an influx of people from abroad," for Los Angeles County "had the highest net number of international migrants between 2012 and 2013 -- 39,000 people -- compared with 32,000 in Florida’s Miami-Dade County and 24,000 in New York’s Queens County."

Illegal immigrants may also feel safer in Los Angeles and California after California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) signed the "Trust Act" that essentially made California a sanctuary state. Illegal immigrants can also receive driver's licenses in California.
