Obama Administration Counters Russian Troops With Selfies

Posted 2 hours ago by Tad Cronn filed under Foreign Policy, Liberalism, National Security, News, socialism, World News

Remember the old joke about bringing a knife to a gunfight?

Apparently, the Obama Administration can't even manage that much in response to Russia. As Vladimir Putin has massed up to 100,000 troops on the Ukraine border, the latest U.S. counteroffensive is ... wait for it ... a selfie from the State Department.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki is catching online flak for sending a picture of herself via Twitter flashing a thumbs-up while holding a sign that reads "UnitedforUkraine @StateDeptSpox." Psaki is Secretary of State John Kerry's top communications adviser.

It's not even a nicely made sign, it's something she whipped up on the back of some scratch paper with a felt marker. The Administration couldn't even spend five minutes to make something in Word.

The entire country of Ukraine is about to be ground to dust under Russian boots. Its future will be written in blood, all caps. Is it asking too much for Ukraine's alleged supporters to spare some printer's ink in 72 pt Times font?

The rest of Ukraine's supposed allies aren't doing much better.

Congress is approving more economic sanctions for Putin to laugh off.

The United Nations finally voted to condemn the vote in Crimea that made it part of Russia. I'm sure the architects of that event are now deeply ashamed.

The International Monetary Fund pitched in with an offer of $18 billion in loans. Maybe the Ukraine could order a couple of stealth fighters. With any luck, they could even arrive in time for the second anniversary of the Russians' takeover of Ukraine.

Of course, the Ukrainians could use that much money to buy bullets. If only they had guns. ... (Note to gun grabbers in the U.S.: What's happening in the Ukraine right now is an example of what the Founding Fathers did NOT want to happen in the U.S. and why we have a Second Amendment.)

For his part, President Obama continued hurling tough talk at Putin.

Well, it's tough talk for him, even if it did sound kind of namby pamby.

"You would have thought that after a couple of decades that there'd be an awareness on the part of any Russian leader that the path forward is not to revert back to the kinds of practices that, you know, were so prevalent during the Cold War but, in fact, to move forward with further integration with the world economy and to be a responsible international citizen," Obama told CBS.

You know, Mr. President, there's a great scene in the movie "Tombstone," where Wyatt Earp, played by the fearsome Kurt Russell, repeatedly slaps a local tough guy across the face until the tough guy's trembling lip is bleeding. The tough guy threatens to draw his gun, but Earp gets up in his face and says, "Go ahead and skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens."

You should watch that scene, Mr. President, because you're the bleeding bully who backs down and runs with his tail between his legs. Agree with what he's doing or not, Putin is Wyatt Earp.

Stop imagining that it's otherwise and be honest. You were almost honest with CBS when you said, "We have no interest in encircling Russia and we have no interest in Ukraine beyond letting the Ukrainian people make their own decisions about their own lives."

If you'd been honest, you would have stopped after the words "we have no interest in Ukraine."

See, the time to prevent what's happening now in Ukraine was years ago, when Mitt Romney, or even earlier when Sarah Palin, saw an invasion of Ukraine in the cards because of your lack of moral strength and integrity. That would have been the time to begin working on changing that impression.

Instead what did you do? You laughed at your opponents' suggestions and said it was silly to consider Russia an international threat.

Well, they were right, you were wrong, Ukraine is doomed and you can't stop it because you're a naive weakling and you've made America a weakling.

Charles Krauthammer rightly said of your naive views about the end of the Cold War and the good intentions of Vladimir Putin, "That’s the kind of sentiment you expect from a Miss America contestant asked to name her fondest wish, not from the leader of the free world explaining his foreign policy."

You've lost Ukraine to the same Russia you fancied was your friend. Time to admit it and say goodnight, princess. Don't forget to turn off your camera.

In a sane world, Jen Psaki would be fired forthwith.
In Obamaword, she'll probably get a promotion.
