Correctional cop crashes out of job right after he gets it

Posted on Tuesday, March 25 at 4:45pm | By Henry K. Lee

A newly hired San Mateo County sheriff’s correctional officer is out of a job after he was arrested early Tuesday in connection with a drunken-driving crash in San Carlos, authorities said.

Christopher Pettit, 23, of San Carlos, who had been hired earlier this month as a correctional officer, crashed a white Chevrolet pickup truck into a PG&E utility pole on the 2400 block of Melendy Drive about 2:15 a.m., said Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt, a sheriff’s spokeswoman.

The impact of the crash sheared the pole off its base, knocked several high-voltage power lines nearby and caused a “large scale” power outage in the northwest part of the city, Rosenblatt said.

Deputies suspected that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and conducted field-sobriety tests, after which he was booked on suspicion of DUI, authorities said.

Pettit is no longer employed by the sheriff’s office, Rosenblatt said. She did not elaborate.

I wonder if he spent the night in the same pokey he'd been assigned to?
