Minnesota couple collected welfare while living on $1.2M yacht in Florida

Living on a yacht in Florida did not stop a Minnesota couple from collecting over a hundred thousand dollars in welfare benefits, KSTP reports.

Colin Chisholm III, 62, and his wife Andrea, 54, are charged with illegally collecting $167,420 from Minnesota’s public assistance programs, all while living on their 83-foot yacht in Florida.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said that Chisholm, who claimed to be a Scottish heir, collected the public assistance between 2005 and 2012. The couple is also believed to have received welfare money from the state of Florida.

According to Freeman, the Chisholms claimed to have lived at a Connecticut address that turned out to be a UPS store.

Freeman said if caught and convicted, the couple may be eligible for probation but he would seek “significant” jail time.

The Chisholms’ whereabouts are currently unknown, and at press time it was unclear whether they were sailing the Seven Seas to loot and plunder other countries’ welfare programs.
