"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim tribute to patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness -- these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. . . . reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles."
George Washington

"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters."
Benjamin Franklin

The USGS earthquake map shows a whole bunch of "little" quakes centered right offshore from Iquique, Chile.  I don't know anything much about seismology, but that suggests there's something going on at that spot.  A quickie check on Wikipedia shows that there is a subduction zone along the coast of Chile called the Peru-Chile Trench, with a high propensity for earthquakes (although generally near southern Chile).  The wikipedia article is here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazca_Plate#Peru-Chile_Trench

Maybe this is a big shift in the Nazca Plate that's been stymied for a long time?

The USGS map showing the incidence of earthquakes near Chile is here:  %2C[-17.65449123359241%2C-62.5341796875]]%2C%22overlays%22%3A{%22plates%22%3Atrue}%2C%22viewModes%22%3A{%22map%22%3Atrue%2C%22list%22%3Atrue%2C%22settings%22%3Atrue%2C%22help%22%3Afalse}}]http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/#{%22feed%22%3A%227day_all%22%2C%22search%22%3Anull%2C%22sort%22%3A%22newest%22%2C%22basemap%22%3A%22grayscale%22%2C%22autoUpdate%22%3Atrue%2C%22restrictListToMap%22%3Atrue%2C%22timeZone%22%3A%22local%22%2C%22mapposition%22%3A[[-26.559049984075532%2C-76.5966796875]%2C[-17.65449123359241%2C-62.5341796875]]%2C%22overlays%22%3A{%22plates%22%3Atrue}%2C%22viewModes%22%3A{%22map%22%3Atrue%2C%22list%22%3Atrue%2C%22settings%22%3Atrue%2C%22help%22%3Afalse}}
