Gun Sales Soar Under Obama Unlike ObamaCare

There were 21,093,273 background checks for firearm purchasers in 2013, according to Breitbart News, almost two million more than in 2012. Experts believe that public fears of stricter gun control laws, at the federal and state levels, are causing the surge in purchases.
That means about 1.8 million permits are approved each month, more than the number of people who sign up for ObamaCare. The Administration is now claiming 5 million have signed up for ObamaCare but 20% have not paid and another 30% – at least – were insured but lost their insurance because of ObamaCare, bringing the number of enrollees to about 3 million so far.
Mr. Obama might want to give away a gun as an incentive to purchase ObamaCare. That is an ad campaign that would work.
Thomas Baker, assistant professor of criminology at the Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University, said the number of gun applicants has increased rapidly in recent years because of the fierce political controversy surrounding gun controls that could result in them being barred from getting a weapon.
It’s also driving more purchasers to venues where guns are sold without background checks.
The Washington Times reported that more gun purchases are being approved after federal background checks under the Obama administration than the previous presidential tenures of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
This could be because the type of person applying is the average American who never felt the need to buy a gun before.
According to Newsmax, under the current Obama administration, the average denial rate is just 0.46, or fewer than one in 200 applicants, which is nearly half of Clinton’s numbers and also much lower than Bush’s. Denials were even lower in the six months following Sandy Hook.
We were seeing about 10 million applications a year. In 2010, 1.5% of the 10.4 million applications for firearm transfers or permits were denied by the FBI (approximately 73,000) or by state and local agencies (approximately 80,000). Convictions of a felony was the number one reason. A state law provision was the second most common reason for rejection (16%).

Mr. Obama’s year-long push for gun control has been a boon for gun manufacturers.
