Panicked Democrats are scrambling ahead of 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 18,2014 — As Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus noted through Breitbart Monday, “there’s no doubt” that the Republican victory in last Tuesday’s special election in Florida’s 13th District “has Democrats increasingly worried about losing the Senate.” But President Barack Obama’s agenda squad, Organizing for Action is providing a new reason for Democrats to panic — OFA is draining the 2014 donor well.

On Sunday, Breitbart’s William Bigelow reported that, while GOP donors have confidently “invested roughly $40 million” into the campaigns of their favorite 2014 candidates, Democratic donors have only coughed up $17 million… less than half.

“Senate Democrats pilloried Jennifer Palmieri, the communications director for the White House and Phil Schiliro, its health care adviser, when the two spoke to them last month about ObamaCare,” Bigelow noted. They didn’t want to hear about enrollment numbers. “The senators wanted to know why Organizing for Action (OFA) was not running commercials for the senators that would explain their support for ObamaCare.”

Bigelow further noted:

On Wednesday, Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the House Democrats campaign group, begged the White House political director, David Simas, to give the Democratic congressmen some help. One of the problems for the congressional Democrats has been that OFA has been sucking up donors’ money and there has been a paucity of support for the congressmen.

Having so many candidate buckets and so little money in the donor well has left Florida’s 26th District Democrat Rep. Joe Garcia clinging to one hope… that “the cavalry is coming.”

The same money plight was noted Sunday by Maureen Dowd of The New York Times.

“While the Koch brothers are pounding the party’s Senate candidates and a few House candidates around the country,” Dowd reported,  “congressional Democrats are wondering when Obama’s vaunted powerhouse national advocacy network, Organizing for Action, will finally step in with some money to offset the wave of outside spending by the Republicans.”

“Responding to these concerns,” The New York Times’ Jonathan Martin and Ashley Parker reported Saturday, “several Democrats said Friday that Organizing for Action would cut back its fund-raising activities so the group would not be in competition with the candidates for donors.”

“We understand and expect that some of our more than 420,000 contributors will shift their focus to their local campaigns during the midterm season,” OFA spokeswoman Katie Hogan said.

But as Tom Hamburger reported for The Washington Post Feb. 23, 2013, soon after the president’s reelection squad known as Obama for America morphed into his agenda pushing squad known as Organizing for Action,  Hogan said the new OFA “will not participate in electoral contests.”

The message is reiterated on OFA’s website:

Neither OFA nor its chapters are involved in elections or partisan political activity. Its exclusive purpose is public policy advocacy and development, and in particular, both enactment of the agenda a majority of Americans voted for in 2012 and the identification and advancement of other goals for progressive change at the state and local level.

“OFA stands alone as a nonprofit group independent of the DNC,” Hamburger noted further. “Instead of being subject to Federal Election Commission disclosure rules, it has registered under section 501(c)4 of the tax code, meaning it will be governed by the looser standards of the Internal Revenue Service rather than the more rigorous disclosure rules of the FEC.

These 501(c)4 organizations are classified as “social welfare organizations.” Because they are required to have education or another public cause as their “primary purpose,” most of their funds cannot be spent on elections.

This message is also reiterated on OFA’s website in its answer to another one of the FAQ’s:

Do the organizations working closely with or in alliance with OFA include the Democratic Party?

No. OFA is not a partisan political organization and does not engage in electoral activity with any partisan political organization. It welcomes Democrats, Republicans, and independents to support its work, and its advocacy is directed to all Americans, without regard to party or other political affiliations.

Meanwhile, against Hogan’s recent assurance to worried Democrats that their friends at OFA “understand and expect that some of” their “contributors will shift their focus to their local campaigns during the midterm season,”OFA Chief Financial Officer Neeti Kaur sent out an email to Democrat supporters last Wednesday saying: “We spent the last few months gearing up — hiring staff, recruiting tens of thousands of volunteers, and training grassroots organizers to go all in over the next 19 days.”

Chip in $5 or more today, and help fund OFA’s big last push for health care.

Two days later, OFA Health Care Campaign Manager Erin Hannigan sent out another email, begging for another $5 donation in another “Last Call” push to sell Obamacare, vowing that OFA is “going to put everything we’ve got into the next 17 days.”

Chip in $5 or more to help reach our budget goal.

But the link provided takes you to an OFA donation page where the suggested donation amounts start at $15.

Chip in before it’s too late

What we do right now determines how aggressive we can make our final push for health care this month.

According to OFA’s website, Obamacare is only one of six “issues” on Obama’s agenda. That they are also collecting donations to “push” gun control, women’s issue, immigration reform, Obama’s ineffective jobs proposals and his administration’s new “priority” of climate change, the question remains:

With OFAs determination to keep draining the donation well in its “aggressive” effort to advance Obama’s agenda, leaving Democratic candidates with empty buckets for the rest of “this month,” will “the cavalry” Garcia and his fellow Democratic candidates are hoping for arrive with too little “too late” to save them in November?

Very interesting.  You gotta wonder exactly what OFA is doing with all that money.  Whose pockets are they greasing??

In any case, I do enjoy watching Dhimmies savage one another....

"The Tea Party has a right to feel cheated.

When does the Republican Party, put in the majority by the Tea Party, plan to honor its commitment to halt the growth of the Federal monolith and bring the budget back into balance"?

I have to disagree.
