Apparently the rank and file don't want them gone. 

NONE of the GOP Senate incumbents are behind their primary challengers.

The GOP elites ruled like drunken sailors and the rank and file want them gone so as not to continue the same thing and expect different results.
The GOP pleads guilty for the mistakes committed by them during Bush. They drank a bit too much, got a little wobbly, and left some damage.

But by comparison, the democrats since then, have been like falling-down drunks careening down the highway slamming into things, killing people, etc. They destroyed far too much, and must be replaced.
