The presumption these or any other statistics about Russia, should be valued by no more than those which missed the Crimea uprising, or the downfall of the USSR in 1989. Especially if any of the data comes from the CIA.

The idea we could quickly ramp up natural gas, build the infrastructure and replace Europe's gas currently supplied by Russia is not reasonable.

When we outlasted the USSR in the Cold War arms race, we basically induced them to run their economy into the ground. In 1980 we had a national debt that was significant, but was a tiny franction of the $17 trillion of today.

And what debt we had in 1980 had in art been spent to wage that arms race. We will not start that cycle anytime soon.

While the US and our NATP partners wiled away 13 years in Afghanistan and Iraq, Russia has been biding their time such that they have judged the combination of our war-weariness, Obama's weakness, our debt etc. to believe they can annex Crimea, and maybe more.

Obama has yet to deter Iran, North Korea of now Russia from aggressive behavior.

We will be rid of him in just over 2.5 years, another calculation by Putin.
