JEAN, Nev. -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday morning in Jean, Nevada.

Police say the standoff began around 9 a.m. after employees from a skydiving business tried to warn a man that his RV would be in the landing area for their jumpers. According to police, the man pointed a gun at the company employees which led them to call Metro.

A Metro Police officer responded and used his car's public announcement system to ask him to come out. When he didn't respond, the officer called SWAT.

SWAT tried to get the man to surrender, but while they were establishing a perimeter around the scene, the man came out of the RV and pointed a long gun at a SWAT officer, police said. The SWAT officer shot and killed the man, who died at the scene.

8 News NOW contacted the skydive business' owner. He neither confirmed nor denied his employees were threatened, but he says none of his employees called police for help.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Metro Police's Force Investigation Section at (702) 828-8452

Never point a gun at a cop.

In fact, never point a gun at another human being who has a gun.
