Lets see. Hasn't the US supported "self determination" around the globe for quite awhile?

Didn't the USSR breakup? Didn't Yugoslavia break up? Didn't Czech split with Slovakia?

Aren't nationalist breakups being sought in Canada, Scotland, Spain, etc.?

Has the US objected to any of the above?

The census of 2001 has ethnic Russians at 58.5% of the population of Crimea, so it is reasonable to assume they would opt to align with Russia.

So assuming the referendum is a reasonably fair election, why should we object?

The census of 2001 has ethnic Russians at 58.5% of the population of Crimea, so it is reasonable to assume they would opt to align with Russia.

So assuming the referendum is a reasonably fair election, why should we object?
