"Hint of intent"?

We have become a nation of morons.

Why do we need hints about his intent when he's telling us what he's going to do and we are powerless to stop him anyway?

Visa restrictions?  Really?  Negotiations versus facts on the ground.  And we can't figure that out?  Has anyone in our government bureaucracy even read a history of World War 2?  Why would you negotiate when you can get everything you want by just taking it?

Obama cleaned up the top brass of the Pentagon as nothing but yes men. The ones that remain that are not of Obama's way of leading or for his policies-were probably black mailed with a look into their laptops like Petraeus. So we have inept hippie pansies running this country all around.

A TV series on Netflix called "Lie to Me" starring Tim Roth deals with the subject.

You read my mind. I was re-reading the title to this thread and wondered if the Pentagon understood this from Putin?

It sounds stupid, but is a valid technique. Psychics and fortune tellers have been using it for centuries. Your body will almost always betray your thoughts.

Poker players use it all the time.

I think one of the points of criticism here is that one doesn't really need to divine Putin's intentions from subtle clues in his body language; his words and his actions pretty much convey his intentions in terms that anyone other than the self-deluded and the politically liberal/progressive can understand.

I wouldn't watch Putin. He has been taught not to give himself away, or as little as possible.

I'd watch his ministers, his translator and his guards as he speaks. You want to know a guy? Watch how the people who know him respond when he speaks.
