Economy added 175,000 jobs in February
Paul Davidson, USA TODAY 8:37 a.m. EST March 7, 2014

The job market rebounded from a two-month slump in February as employers added 175,000 jobs, while the unemployment rate rose to 6.7% from 6.6%, the Labor Department said Friday.

Economists surveyed by Action Economics estimated that 157,000 jobs were added last month.

Businesses added 162,000 jobs. Federal, state and local governments added 13,000.

Job gains for December and January were revised up by a total 25,000. December's were revised to 84,000 from 75,000 and January's to 129,000 from 113,000.

Many analysts had predicted another month of tepid job gains after a survey by private payroll processor ADP showed businesses added just 139,000 jobs last month. A measure of service-sector employment also fell sharply in February and reports on housing, retail sales and factory output have been weak amid an unusually cold and stormy winter.

Monthly job gains averaged 200,000-plus last fall before the adverse weather helped lower average gains to about half that in December and January. Yet some economists say other factors also have hurt the economy and labor market, such as a slowdown in business stockpiling after firms aggressively replenished shelves late last year.

There is a reason for all this!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Cooked books, fake numbers, lie and misrepresentations.

I don't know. I golf with building contractors, and at the end of the season last year, they said things were going great. Margins are tight, but there is lots of business.

I had a home remodeling contractor over for an estimate. He said smaller, $10k - $20k jobs were his companies sweet spot, but he's taking on 3 $100k plus jobs this year because of the demand.

Exactly.  The numbers put out by FedGov are no longer worth discussing.  A total sham.

They are getting credit for the energy boom in states like North Dakota and Texas.......  WI has improved because of Scott Walker's policies... you really need to look at this red state vs blue states to see the real picture.

Upside down on job stats
Michael Goodwin, NY Post

“There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics,” Mark Twain wrote. Let us here focus on the third lie’s link to unemployment.

For years, the White House insisted that falling unemployment rates proved the success of its policies. Critics said no way, arguing that, in many months, more people dropped out of the labor force than got jobs, and weren’t counted as unemployed. They cited the lowest labor participation rate in 35 years.

Which brings us to Friday’s decent jobs report, when the unemployment rate ticked higher, to 6.7 percent. Obama apologists insisted the rise was good news, saying the increase came because more people entered the work force because jobs were available.

OK, then, to recap: When the unemployment rate goes down, the administration is doing a good job. When the rate goes up, the administration is doing a good job.

Twain said it best.

My snowbird neighbor has owned a flooring business in MN for a very long time. He told me he is considering closing it. Not because he doesn't have customers, he cannot find workers. At least not anyone willing to work for $15 an hour.  He said when they offer an entry level employee $15 the person says he'd rather collect benefits than work for such a small salary - and the people who actually do want to work hard, well they are going across the border into North Dakota and working for $100 - $200K a year.

Me, too.  I think we are becoming the minority.  I don't know if you remember the article a year or so ago about the college grad living with mom who refused a job starting at $54,000 a year because he felt he was worth more - never mind he'd been looking for over a year, as long as mom was willing to foot the bills he didn't have to work.

Mile Rowe (Dirty Jobs) is currently being excoriated because he had the audacity to push kids to actually go to trade schools and get a well-paying job.

Mike Rowe is right.. The education failed a lot of kids by dropping vocational education and telling them that they had to go to college.. Never mind that a lot of kids may not want to go to college or they can't handle college.

Remember LibSpy who was here for a while?  He complained about his college loans (even though he claimed he was an Iraq vet and would have had the VA ) and when we suggested he could go to vocational school he said he didn't want to "work" for a living and this is why he wanted to he a history teacher......

This is what we're dealing with.

Interesting point, and one I never really considered. Different here - the engine that powers Labour (our socialists) is the working class tradesmen and laborers.
