Media bias: CBS gets Issa headline wrong
By T. Kevin Whiteman on March 5, 2014 at 4:19 pm

Many conservatives have long accused the American mainstream media of bias in favor of members of the Democratic Party as well as liberal causes, and a headline ran by the CBS affiliate in Washington, DC on Mar. 5, 2014 could very well be red meat thrown to the critics of the Fourth Estate.

Owning a slew of radio stations as well as one of the major internet news portals emanating from the nation’s capital, CBS Radio, Inc. ran the headline:

Issa Walks Out Of IRS Scandal Hearing As Cummings Calls Proceedings ‘Un-American’

While the last five words are factually correct, the front-end may not pass muster for the knowledge of parliamentary procedure required of beat reporters in DC, or possibly just failing to pass on the mere basics of journalistic integrity.

Unfortunately for CBS reporter Benjamin Fearnow, according to the rules of parliamentary procedure for the US Congress it is factually impossible for Rep. Darryll Issa (R-CA) to walk out of the hearing in question.

The Congressman from the Golden State happens to be the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, and had already adjourned the hearing for the day.

Regardless of political affiliation, when the Chair of any given hearing adjourns, the business of the day is concluded.
