Obama Redefines ‘Freedom’ In Recent Speech

“As Democrats,” he said, “we’ve let the other side define the word ‘freedom’ for too long.”

Speaking before a friendly crowd of Democrat supporters Friday, Barack Obama indicated that America’s true defenders of freedom belong to his party.

“As Democrats,” he said, “we’ve let the other side define the word ‘freedom’ for too long.”

At that point, he began a lengthy attempt to redefine the word in radical leftist parlance bearing little resemblance to the liberties enumerated by our founding fathers. While Americans have embraced the right of the individual for generations, Obama asserted true freedom is determined by the whims of an interventionist central government.

“Freedom is the peace of mind of knowing that if you get sick, you won’t lose everything,” he said in a transparent plug for his monumentally disastrous ObamaCare law. “Freedom is the ability to change jobs and start a new business, chase a new idea without fear of losing your health insurance.”

Self-reliance was once viewed as the cornerstone of freedom, at least by American standards. Obama, on the other hand, concludes that belief must be updated by enumerating countless invented ‘rights’ that in reality curtail legitimate freedom.

Building upon typical leftist talking points, Obama suggested freedom is found in such abstract pursuits as “getting that new credit card and knowing the stakes and understanding how you’re going to manage it….”

Of course, he could not resist the opportunity to once again voice his undying concern for those who live in constant violation of America’s immigration laws.

“Freedom is the knowledge that your future in this country is secure,” he suggested, and that “you’re not going to be treated like a second-class person once we fix our broken immigration system. That’s freedom.”

Simply using the word ‘freedom’ ad nauseam does not imply that Obama actually has a grasp on its meaning.

In an obvious reference to and misrepresentation of proposed laws designed to protect the rights of business-owners, Obama also expanded his definition of freedom to include suing companies unwilling to violate their religious convictions.

“Freedom is the ability to go into a store or a restaurant without the fear that you’d be refused service because of who you are or who you love,” he said.

As the left continues its campaign to delegitimize authentic freedom, more Americans than ever believe their rights come from the existence of a powerful centralized government as opposed to its absence. Unfortunately, this phenomenon was unmistakably illustrated by Obama’s reelection despite years of evidence showing his embrace of an ever-expanding American bureaucracy.

Obama's definition of fear is having to live without government intervention.
