John Cornyn easily won the Republican primary.  With 20% of the precincts in, he leads Steve Stockman 62-17%.

The AP has called the Congressional race between Pete Sessions and Katrina Pearson, with Sessions beating Pearson by a wide margin.

George P. Bush easily won his race for Land Commissioner, with 75% of the vote.

Greg Abbott won the GOP nomination for governor, garnering three times more votes than all the Democrat candidates combined.  Meanwhile, Wendy Davis only has 77% of the vote and has been declared the winner of the Democrat primary for governor., with challenger Ray Madrigal winning most of the counties in South Texas.

Dewhurst ran for the senate and was defeated by Ted Cruz, now he is being defeated by a conservative for Lt. Governor.  Certainly looks like his political days are on the wane.

It's all good, with the exception of Dan Patrick as Lt. Governor.  He and Dewhurst will likely be in a runoff, and Dewhurst will lose.

I'm not all that upset about Dewhurst losing, but I'd rather have Jerry Patterson in that position.  Patrick is the Steve King of Texas politics; you never know what he's going to say or do.

Yep.  He's done.  Patrick will win the runoff.

Cornyn winning without a runoff is huge, though.

It indicates the TP movement has dropped significantly in "favorability" just like several polls have found.

And it indicates the TP movement is narrow, but deep and loud.

The wins in 2010 held great promise, but nada in 2012. And now nada in Texas in 2014, where one would think they held greatest appeal.

But the thing morphed from defeating democrats, to replacing Republicans with ACU ratings above 90. That reveals bad judgment, hence the loss of approval.

That is as polite and honest an assessment as I could make.  I'd rather gloat. :patriot:

FreedomWorks, a national organization aligned with the tea party, took its second shot at Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, this summer as part of a digital advertisement campaign targeting several GOP senators.
...
The most recent anti-Cornyn advertisement is part of a broader FreedomWorks campaign boosting Lee’s effort in 50 states, according to group spokeswoman Jackie Bodnar. “In terms of negative ads, we have named Toomey, Heller, Cornyn and Burr specifically so far,” she wrote in an email.

“A primary challenge against John Cornyn is much more likely today than it was two months ago,” said Matt Hoskins, executive director of the Senate Conservatives Fund, a group that targets GOP lawmakers it deems too moderate. “He’s really put his race in play.”
...
“If the right candidate showed up, Senator Cornyn would have a fight on his hands, and a fight his money wouldn’t protect him from,” said JoAnn Fleming, a Tyler-based activist and executive director of Grassroots America. “I do believe Senator Cornyn could be retired next year, based on this alone.”

More than 1,000 (zero exaggeration, that is an actual number) tea party and republican party leaders have asked David Barton to run.

"We need a Constitutional conservative in that seat,” she says. “We believe that Senator Cornyn has become part of the establishment and we don’t believe that his priorities reflect the priorities of the people of Texas any longer.” - JoAnn Fleming, executive director of Texas-based Grassroots America We The People
...
Julie McCarty, president of the NE Tarrant Tea Party, says that grassroots activists in her circles have quickly latched onto the idea of a Barton campaign because they “so desperately” want someone to replace Cornyn. “We trust him,” she says of Barton. “We trust him to be one of us.”
FreedomWorks, Senate Conservative Fund, and the Tea Party have been going after Cornyn for over a year.  They accepted a lot of suckers' money to fail...much like Sen Ted Cruz who spent last year sunning in the spotlight and accomplishing nothing. {sigh} They threatened him with a primary but all they could attract were freaks like Stockman and Stovel.

Let us look at another fail tonight.

"Katrina Pierson has led the fight to elect principled conservatives across the state of Texas for years," FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe said in a statement on Thursday. "While incumbent Rep. Pete Sessions seems more concerned with keeping his seat at the leadership table, Katrina understands the importance of connecting to the grassroots at home and sticking to your guns in Washington. She is the clear choice for voters who want a strong leader who will fight both the Republicans and Democrats in Washington who continue to spend money we don’t have."
...
The endorsement came the same day that Pierson announced her challenge to Sessions, according to the Dallas Morning News. Pierson's campaign website describes her as a leader of the Dallas Tea Party.

“That’s exactly what’s going to happen. And when people really figure that out, the Pete Sessions of the world will be lucky to get out of town in time because the people will come with pitchforks because they’re going to be pissed. They already are, Pete. I would suggest you don’t even run. Because you’ve got another thing coming when you run. You are going to lose in a spectacular fashion, and I hope you’re just the first in many Republicans.”

Own it Kibbe and Hoskins.  You failed.  Good luck getting rid off McConnell http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/02/20/Matt-Bevin-Says-Same-Sex-Marriage-Will-Lead-to-Parent-Child-Marriage

I'm glad to see Dewhurst on his last legs.
I wonder when the lies will stop and truth begin, even as grim as the truth may be. And then I remember that for 70 years, the reign of terror in Russia called itself "the people's government." We have so far to fall, yet we are falling fast and Hell yawns to receive us.
