RNC Omits Sarah Palin from Women's History Month Tribute
« on: March 03, 2014, 11:28:16 pm »
by Adrienne Ross  3 Mar 2014
Saturday, the Republican National Committee (RNC) released a statement in honor of Women’s History Month in which they highlighted women trailblazers, mentioning some prominent women in the Republican Party. Conspicuously absent, however, was former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Republicans “played a leading role in securing women’s right to vote,” Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chairman Sharon Day wrote, adding that Susan B. Anthony joined with other suffragists to pass the 19th Amendment, which was finally accomplished in 1919.

Boasting a unique role Republican women have played, they stated:

Quote
Republican women have a history of being trailblazers, breaking ground and glass ceilings--from Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman to be elected to both the House and the Senate, to the nation’s first Latina governor, Susana Martinez of New Mexico and the country’s youngest sitting governor, Nikki Haley of South Carolina.

Palin was the first woman ever selected to run on a GOP presidential ticket, as well as the first female governor of Alaska and youngest governor--male or female--of Alaska.

Since her spot on the 2008 ticket, Palin has helped get Republican women elected by making key endorsements that brought both support and finances--women such as Susana Martinez and Nikki Haley, two women the RNC praised in their statement.

It is most commendable for the RNC, often accused of waging a “war on women,” to pay tribute to Women’s History Month, just as they recognized Black History Month in February. But Palin's omission from the tribute is surprising.

Palin has been ripping into the RNC/"GOPe" for a few years now as being a huge problem for America.  She goes after the RINOs as much as she does the Dems.

Why would anyone expect the RNC to honor her?   :chairbang:

The GOP statement is really short.
Quote
“Today marks the beginning of Women’s History Month, which gives us all the opportunity to celebrate women’s contributions to our country throughout our history—and especially to honor those women who fought to make this country a more just and equal place,” said Chairman Priebus.

“The Republican Party is proud to have played a leading role in securing women’s right to vote. When Susan B. Anthony defied the law and voted in 1872, she proudly voted the Republican ticket. She and other suffragists worked with her friend Republican Senator A.A. Sargent to introduce the 19th Amendment. And it took a Republican Congress to finally pass it in 1919.

“The Republican Party continues to uphold the principle of equal opportunity for all that has guided us from the very beginning. And as we celebrate the women of our party and country this month, we continue our fight for equal opportunity.”

“I’m always inspired by the stories of our country’s strong-willed women. I’m especially inspired by those suffragettes and their decades-long fight for voting rights,” said Co-Chairman Day.

“Republican women have a history of being trailblazers, breaking ground and glass ceilings — from Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman to be elected to both the House and the Senate, to the nation’s first Latina governor, Susana Martinez of New Mexico and the country’s youngest sitting governor, Nikki Haley of South Carolina.

“Republicans continue to offer a positive agenda for America’s women, as we work to create more job opportunities, lighten the tax burden, and reduce the cost of healthcare. Our policy goals are driven by the desire to do what’s best for women—not by scoring cynical political points.

“Today my granddaughters have opportunities that past generations could only dream about, but we can’t forget women in countries around the world who don’t enjoy equal rights and the same opportunities. Let’s rededicate ourselves to being a beacon of freedom and opportunity this Women’s History Month.”

They also didn't mention first woman SCOTUS justice Sandra Day O'Conner nominated by Reagan.  They did mention Haley and Martinez because they are both sitting governors running for re-election this year.  Breitbart.com is really poorly served by this kind of crappy journalism.  Andrew would be ashamed of how low his website has sunk.

Okay. Now I understand. The RNC is about petty politics, not objective truth. Thanks for clearing that up.

And they (Rove and the good old boys) wonder why they're losing support to the tea party.

The leaders of a party not consumed with sucking up to those who despise it would have simply issued a statement noting that throughout America, Republican women are making history every month.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Did you read the article?  The honored Niki Haley and Susana Martinez - neither of whom would have been elected except for Sarah Palin. Both were losing their races until she a) endorsed them and b) appeared for them and after she did a and b they moved ahead and won their races....   The GOPe didn't help get them elected - SARAH PALIN helped get them elected.

Oh and "C" Palin was the first woman who ran for Vice President in the Republican old boys club.

Woo hoo, a Palin thread brings 'em out of the woodwork (like termites).  If one's only response is, "So what?" why bother responding at all?

Personally, I would have been shocked if the GOP had honored Palin, given her criticism of their "go along" mentality (despite her having nominated to run for VP). I'm sure she'll get over it, though.

Articles about restoring Republican unity, in order to win elections? Rare or none at all.

Articles about conflict between TP and GOPe? Numerous, continuous, predictable, monotonous. Takes no talent, creativity or insight to write one.

Articles portraying "conservatives" as victims? Numerous, continuous, predictable, monotonous. Takes no talent, creativity or insight to write one.

Seems the RNC – and some folks here – have a problem with the Tea Party. Well, here's a thought, RNC:

The 2006 election resulted in a sweeping victory for the Democratic Party which captured the House of Representatives, the Senate, and a majority of governorships and state legislatures from the Republican Party.

Where was the Tea Party? Well, the movement hadn't coalesced yet. Establishment RNC / GOP candidates lost big all by their lonesome. No embarrassing Tea Parties around, yet.

In 2008 Democrats made substantial gains expanding their control of the House +21, and Senate +8.

And what of the 2010 elections? One year after the tea party became active in demonstrations and in getting out the vote, the GOP took back the house and Tea Party supported candidates won 5 of 10 Senate races contested for a net gain of +6 Republican seats. And in gubernatorial elections gained +6 Republican governorships.

Just some food for thought.

Now, RNC, explain again just what is the problem with the Tea Party?

You're right AC.  And although Bush always gets the blame, it seems like the economy started heading downhill after 2006 with the Dem control.  However, I do blame George W. Bush for that and for Obama's victory after that - because he refused to fight back, and thus enabled what we are suffering through now.  Bush is a good man, but I think he got bad advice from Karl Rove and others.  The Tea Party saved the GOP's butt in 2010.

Yes, and Sarah Palin played a major role in this no matter how the people who rarely post other than to mock her want to think otherwise.

It's like I've been saying over and over and over and ... until the tea partiers and the moderates start working together, instead of trying to kill each other, the GOP is not going to get anywheres other than permanent minority status.
