By Lisa Barron

Republican Rep. Shelley Moore Capito is 14 points ahead of Democratic challenger Natalie Tennant in November's West Virginia Senate race, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll.

The new statewide survey found that 49 percent of likely West Virginia voters support Capito, compared to 35 percent who back Tennant.

The poll also showed that 4 percent prefer another candidate, while 12 percent are undecided at this stage.

The telephone poll of 500 likely voters in West Virginia was conducted Feb. 19-20 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

That should be an easy pick-up, and I won't be surprised if Manchin at least goes independent once the Senate shifts to the GOP.

I believe it unlikely Manchin would leave the Dem party. If he did, it would cause a freakin' earthquake in W.Va.!
