A worrisome "Beckism"
« on: February 23, 2014, 06:03:00 pm »
To paraphrase, "We're not concerned about Left or Right but right and wrong."
That, my friends, is charlatan speak.  That is what often precedes Democrat majorities.  The soft-headed "Conservatives" and "Independents", fall for it every time, while the lock-step Leftists vote as they are supposed to, DEMOCRATS.
Why?  Well, because I'm a bastard, that's why.

I agree with Beck.  A lot of people call themselves R4s and are not conservatives and a lot call themselves Ds because their family's have been Ds forever and they are LIV enough to not see why they might not be a D in its current iteration or an R with all the Progressives in that party.  Both parties are corrupting the nation and Beck sees it.. so do Hannity and Levin, too.  BTW Beck is a libertarian.

If that's a paraphrase, what did he actually say? If it was something about not caring about R or D ... I have no problem with it.

It was as close as I could remember in the 13 seconds from when I heard it, to when I posted it.  It may have been his slogan between segments or The Blaze motto.
It was NOT R or D.  It was Left or Right.

That, my friends, is charlatan speak.

Then you must think Reagan was a charlatan. I have a huge book of all of Reagan's letters and speeches, and he made similar comments many times about it not being the R or the D that makes the person the better choice.
It is about right and wrong, about following  the Constitution and honoring our Founding Fathers Principles and having a moral compass and positive vision for the country –believing that America’s best days are still ahead.

He is a Libertarian and makes no bones about it. Like most  Libertarians with a microphone he will in the  24 months before an election give you 21 months of why you should not vote for the Republican ,  then they come around when it is clear that the Libertarian candidate won’t  move out of the  single digits and then they give  you 2 months of why we need to vote for the Republican or we’re doomed.  He started doing that the last election but then became a  big Santorum supporter, but he reluctantly shifted his support for Romney once Santorum left the race.
I myself like Beck.   Not so much for his political leanings and how he communicates it to his audience,  because I find maybe 5% of the time I don’t always agree with him, but because of his interest in American History. There is so much I have learned about our history from his show, with guest like David Barton.  My library is full of great  history books introduced on his show.
The other thing that makes him stand out from all the other right wing talk host, and maybe you haven’t heard him say this, but he has often said on his show  “Don’t trust what he says” – do your own homework and  decide for yourself what is true or not. That is a lot different than Rush who says, I’m right 99.8% of the time or Michele Savage who claims to be always right and everyone else alive or dead is an idiot.

I can’t stand Michael Savage so I don’t listen to him. I couldn’t quote one thing he said this last year because I make sure his show is not tuned in.    You on the other hand seem to watch Glenn Beck just to be able to having something to say against him when you feel the urge.   That’s your right I suppose. We all like and dislike different political pundits – but do remember there are several of us here that do like his radio and TV show and more importantly what he does outside those shows,  how he reaches out to vast audiences and can pack a stadium. And not just to hear him bloviate, but to have their lives changed for the better by reminding them of their part in the American Experiment.  He’s the Founding Fathers Evangelist and everyday he has a chance to talk to us is his Tent Revival.  Anyway that is how I see him. I may not always agree with him, but I’m glad he is there, and I’m glad he is on our side.

Navy (if I may be familiar!), that's my point.  You may be glad he's on our side, while I'm still not too sure he is.  Like to put all our eggs in the Beck basket we may be surely let down.  But each to our own!

Take Jonathan Turley for example. Big Lib, honest about it, but has serious disagreement with Obama's executive power grab. He made that clear in committee hearings recently. I consider him a patriot – but with whom I disagree on social, economic, security, etc. policy.

I lean libertarian strongly. But I'm a pragmatist and would never vote in a way that would allow a socialist/liberal to win office.

Beck is doing the work that many Republicans refuse to do. He is building an entire network from the ground up, promoting conservative and libertarian points of view, teaching American history, exposing Progressive plans and schemes, and warning about dangers to Liberty that the mainstream media ignore or deny.

He, along with Rush Limbaugh and a handful of others, is effectively daring the Republican Party to take a stand against the perils we face and to oppose the forces responsible for them, knowing that the GOP will not survive if its leadership continues to pretend that America's foundational principles need not be publicly promoted or defended in order to be saved.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

If you don't think Beck is on our side, whose side do you suspect he's on?

I don't know of anyone who "puts all their eggs in the Beck basket."  Do you?

Don't feel threatened--he's one of many conservatives currently fighting the good fight.   He's one of the good guys.

Do you actually watch The Blaze?  Because what you posted to start this tread is from a commercial for The Blaze.  I know you said a while back you don't watch Real News on The Blaze because the panel is too young.  Frankly i find their discussions on the panel refreshing and and smart, same with Wilkow and the special reports the do on Wednesday with Laurie Dhue followed by former CIA, Buck Sexton, are excellent.
