Quote
This is the moment an alleged sniper and member of the pro-government forces was beaten by anti-government protestors in Kiev, as protestors took control of the presidential administration building.

As Ukrainian protesters said they had taken control of government offices and President Viktor Yanukovich fled the city, angry civilians kicked and shouted at members of the government, and could be seen tussling with an alleged sniper.

'He's (Yanukovich) not here, none of his officials or anyone linked directly to the administration are here,' Ostap Kryvdyk, a protest leader inside the grounds of the administration building, said.

Crowds of people swarmed the streets of Kiev as the under-fire president said he had no intention of stepping down, despite calls for him to give up his seat.

Picture this in America. The rebels are angry with the guy. The guy is probably very fearful.

So my proposal is to put labels on the parties. Who is the fearful guy that is in the hands of the rebels?

--liberal voter?
--liberal bureaucrat?
--liberal media figure?
--Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Debbie W.S.?

Should the rebels torture, kill, lock up the party they now hold captive? What to charge him with? Where to try him?

I think the democrats were fearful a few years ago, when they saw the "rebels" winning elections against them.

But I also think the democrats feel less threatened, as they watch the "rebels" anger directed instead against fellow Republicans.

--DHS sniper
--SWAT sniper
--(insert federal agency here) sniper

I read in another article that the protesters managed to capture 67 or more police, and hold them captive. That they were able to do this, despite the probability that most protesters were unarmed and the police there probably are under far less restraint than the police here, is remarkable. Given a similar confrontation here, facing a large and armed populace, what might the results be?

Understand that the situation is far more complex then what you describe.  This is happening in Kiev, and people in Eastern Ukraine could not care less, and have certainly not arisen in support of the "rebels" in Kiev.  There are so many political parties at play in Ukrainian politics that even now the incredibly corrupt president STILL commands a majority in what serves as their parliament....(21% according to Foreign Policy...).

Politics in Ukraine have been incredibly messy, often violent and frequently bloodily fatal to the participants.  This kind of thing has been brewing for over 15 years and isn't going to stop any time soon.  Keep in mind these are the same people who frequently require referees in their parliamentary proceedings....
