Signs urging voters to “Retire Mitch” began springing up over the weekend in Louisville, Lexington and northern Kentucky, providing the first concrete evidence of a national tea party group effort to take down U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell.

FreedomWorks for America — which announced last month that it was endorsing McConnell’s Republican primary challenger, Matt Bevin, and would spend up to $500,000 toward that cause — paid for the signs. The group also is organizing others to begin canvassing neighborhoods for Bevin this week, said Russ Walker, FreedomWorks’ national political director.

"We have distributed over 5,000 signs around the Louisville and Lexington area and another 5,000 Bevin signs will be distributed this week,” Walker said.

There are reports of the black and white “Retire Mitch” signs throughout Jefferson County, in Prospect, Jeffersontown, Fern Creek, Valley Station and St. Matthews, in Lexington and in Fort Mitchell.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there a few folks here at TBR who insist it's a good idea to return Mitch and the boys back to the Senate chamber? Something about them being fighters for limited government, lower taxes and such. Hmm.  *hmmmm*

Being for TARP is one thing – many fiscal conservatives were – but being for it before you were against it, that's quite another thing. Bevin was on record supporting TARP. Though, I suppose one could choose to believe his explanation for signing the financial statement putting him on record.

No.  If Bevin signed a document to his shareholders he didn't support, he could be sued by one or all of them for fiduciary mismanagement.

But Bevin is saying that it was Bondi's judgment that he was signing off on. Two issues here. Was Bevin for TARP or not, and was Bevin responsible for holding the same judgment as his financial guy, Bondi. A case can be made for Bevin compartmentalizing that point. I'm sure Bevin is counting on that getting him through this.

What would you have done had you been in Bevin's place?

Made Bondi re-write the report even though it was due and there was no time for that  or signed the report that was put in front of you.

I guess we are now going to need signing statements to accompany financial reports!
