Los Angeles County Police Murder Old Man in Bed

It feels like we are being forced to recount one too many of these kind of stories – but they must be told.
In June of 2013, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department conducted a raid on the home of an elderly man named Eugene Mallory in the town of Little Rock in the rural outskirts of the county. They were searching for meth that an informant claimed was being made there.
Upon executing their warrant, Sheriff’s deputies entered Mr. Mallory’s home and shot him dead in the bed where he lay. The officer who killed him said in his report that when he entered the home, Mr. Mallory exited his room and was stumbling towards him with his gun pointed at the officer. At this point the officer also said that he yelled at Mr. Mallory to “drop the gun” and when he didn’t the officer fired – killing Mr. Mallory.
But when the coroner arrived he realized that something was wrong.
Mr.MalloryDuring an internal investigation police learned that Mr. Mallory never got out of his bed. The deputy who killed him shot Mr. Mallory six times while he lay in his bed. Another curious note, the gun was sitting on the night stand when the house was searched after the shooting. When asked about it, the deputy who killed Mr. Mallory said that he took the gun out of the man’s hand and placed it on the night stand before anyone else came in the room. Mr. Mallory had never fired a shot – one wonders if he ever actually had the gun in his hand.
Further investigation found that the officer was wrong about his warning to Mr. Mallory as well. The officer claimed in his report that he ordered Mr. Mallory to drop his gun, and when he didn’t, he opened fire. However, on the recording of the raid the officer can clearly be heard saying “drop the gun” AFTER firing his gun six times.
To say this story is suspicious would be an understatement.
Oh, and they never found any meth… or any evidence of meth ever being produced on the property.
Eugene Mallory was a politically active, upstanding member of his community. He did not have a criminal record and the local authorities are outraged at the way the Los Angeles County Sheriffs handled themselves during the case. His death is a tragedy and someone should be punished for it.
Mrs. Mallory has filed a wrongful death suit against the Sheriff’s Department. It remains to be seen if anything will come of it.
