Rand Paul: Bevin’s Credibility Hurt by Inconsistency on Bailouts

By  Patrick Brennan
February 17, 2014 1:48 PM

Kentucky senator Rand Paul thinks the credibility of Matt Bevin, a tea-party candidate running against Senator Mitch McConnell this fall, has been damaged by the controversy over his past endorsement of the 2008 Wall Street bailouts.

“Paul told reporters Monday that a lack of consistency can be harmful and said that applies to Bevin,” the AP reports.

McConnell’s support for the 2008 bailouts has been one of Bevin’s main lines of attack against the generally conservative Senate minority leader. Senator Rand Paul, who defeated a more established candidate in 2010, like Bevin his first run for political office, has endorsed McConnell, but says he’d decided to do so before Bevin had entered the race.

Bevin signed a letter to clients of an investment firm he was running in 2008 saying that the authorization of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) was a “positive development.” He now claims that he had to sign the letter as a regulatory matter, and couldn’t legally ask that his investment officer, who wrote the letter, change it. It’s just as likely, however, that Bevin could have run afoul of securities regulations by signing his name to something if he didn’t believe it.

I would enjoy learning how much money he got paid when "having to" sign the letter he didn't believe in, but signed anyway? Anybody?

Why didn't he make his "principled" stand then?

Hint: He didn't really "have to" sign it.

So, wait a minute.

McConnell's most credible Tea Party-aligned endorsement came before McConnell was even opposed and is not even certain anymore. *snicker*

As for Bevin, there are times when you have to choose between mediocre and bad. This is one of those times. McConnell is firmly in the camp of the GOP Establishment in that he believes in tradition and procedure over principle. With a corrupt Senate Majority Leader willing to do whatever it takes to protect his influence, we need more disruptive actions.

Paul's not endorsing Bevin and  you are reading way too much into his statement.

Bevin's a liar.  Nobody buys his bullshit story, nobody with any credibility anyway.  He's not going to beat McConnell, and McConnell, after Kerry's tirade yesterday, has the perfect weapon to beat Grimes into dust.

Kentucky is coal country, and the Democrat Party is firmly in the camp of Obama and Kerry, who want to eliminate coal plants.  No matter that Grimes may favor coal; she belongs to a party that doesn't.

Was Bevin once a member of the Constitution Party??
