It's also an example of the childish nature of the others up there, to ostracize him, if not bullying him. The problem with that childish tact, he's a man.

Rand Paul seems rather "go along to get along" with Mitch McConnell. Plus, he doesn't seem too far removed from the crazy, anarchistic ideas of Ron Paul.
So it's probably a good thing that he isn't Ted Cruz's "lunch buddy" or whatnot.

PS. I will vote for him, despite being a Catholic SoCon, in the Presidential primary, as 1. he is the most electable tea partier next to Cruz, 2. I don't think Cruz fits the "natural-born citizen" requirement (this is one of the few places, under the current Constitution, where the average citizen can, in effect, overrule the Sup.Ct.) , and 3.desperate times call for desperate measures.
PPS. I think most, but not quite all, Tea Partiers should be reelected.
RINOs and Democrats hate Cruz only for the fact that, like many Americans, he likes America as it's always been, not the Socialist nanny state that the Dems are trying to change it to.
If all the GOP was like Cruz, I'd have some hope for the future of the USA.

There's an old saying in journalism that one source is a liar, two are possibly in cahoots to spread gossip, and three separate people, none of whom you would suspect of being in collusion-- if anything, ideally each unaware of what the other two said or even if they said anything at all, but at a minimum that they don't hang out in the same circles (yeah, right!)-- three people makes it a story. Well, Gwen Ifill covered this on Friday night, so officially it's a "story." And each presumably had their three sources in turn.Look, the GOP have their reason for wanting to put this out there--"He's a bit, y'know, 'out there' for us, and we'd rather not engage with him in anything right now...", and the Dems have their reason-- "Look-- dissension in the GOP ranks in the Senate! Ted Cruz has been sent into exile by his own caucus!" The whole point is that they both expect he will be rather vocal in the weeks and months to come on a number of issues, so they want everyone to know, and for the MSM to report it, that TC is like unto "a voice crying out in the wilderness."
I just tell the truth, and that makes some people laugh, to paraphrase Harry Truman on the subject of "hell." But the rule of sourcing thing is pretty accurate. At a minimum you always look to see, if you've heard something from more than one person, if there's any reason to think they're both trying to sell you the same story by both sticking to the script. Three people is a bit harder to pull off, just on a game-of-telephone basis, especially if, with a bit of digging, you can't come up with a plausible way they could have cooked it all up, and so you figure that what you've heard is probably right, in the broad strokes.
Sometimes you go with one (with corroboration), sometimes with two, if you can't see the connection (a Dem and a Repub both say the same thing, for different reasons), but three will usually work.
Of course, that's how journalists USED to do it. Y'know, back when they weren't willing stenographers and copier machines. 6

His "colleagues" have spent plenty of time stabbing him in the back since his arrival in Washington...he doesn't need to sit next to them for lunch and give them an easy target
