Michelle Obama and her daughters shut down Aspen's airport.
Michelle Obama's arrival in Aspen shut down the entire airport.
Michelle is spending the long weekend in Aspen with daughters Sasha and Malia. She flew in on a private jet on Friday, ceasing all air traffic in order to accommodate her.
"Michelle, with her daughters, Sasha and Malia, was expected to touch down in Aspen Friday to spend Valentine's Day and Presidents Day weekend away from her husband, who was meeting late Friday with Jordan's King Abdullah II in Rancho Mirage," The New York Post reported.
The rich and powerful weren't happy that the first lady was shafting their private jets. And there were apparently "hundreds" of them.
"Aspen airport's director of aviation, Jim Elwood, declined to discuss Mrs. Obama's travel plans, but said, 'Typically when VIPs land, we do not close the airport, but hold other traffic for a few minutes.' He added, 'This is one of our busiest weekends of the year and we expect several hundred planes today.'"
Spending Presidents Day weekend at the ski resort is a tradition for the Obamas. Michelle and her daughters were reportedly spotted at, "Aspen's Buttermilk ski area over Presidents Day weekend in 2012 and 2013."
"It's her third time here," said the Pitkin County Sheriff. "She likes it here."
It's Aspen; what's not to like?
Barack isn't so lucky. The President is traveling to boring locations all across the country this holiday weekend. He went to Fresno, California on Friday to tell farmers plagued by a horrific drought that $160 million in federal aid was on its way, and then made his way to Rancho Mirage to discuss the oh-so-pleasant Middle East situation with the King of Jordan.
The President will, however, make time for a few rounds of golf at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage.
Back in Aspen, Ms. Obama and her daughters are staying with "Jim and Paula Crown, owners of the Aspen Skiing Co.," according to The Aspen Daily News.
