Ted Cruz tells it like it is, explains to Mark Levin why he filibustered the debt ceiling vote
Posted on Feb 13, 2014 at 8:10 PM
By The Right Scoop

Mark Levin had Ted Cruz on his show tonight to discuss the debt ceiling vote yesterday and one of the things Cruz told him is that Republican politicians hate and fear most when they are forced to tell the truth. Cruz then pointed out that he had his staff print 3 pages of Republican Senators saying several months ago that they would fight for the debt ceiling, that this would be the place where they’d take a stand. And of course they didn’t. But he said it’s as if they think their constituents are a bunch of rubes that won’t remember what they say.

"Well ya know, It is remarkable in the 13 months I've been in the Senate, it has become apparent to me the single thing that Republican politicians hate, and fear the most, and that is when they are forced to tell the truth."  Senator Cruz

Rules for Radicals
Rule 4 “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”

Good Lord Senator Cruz!  Are you saying politicians spin the truth?  Get out.
Politicians are dishonest to the LIVs and the rats?  What is this world coming to?

According to Senator Cruz there is only one solitary thing Republican politicians hate the most.  Only one, count them (1) thing they fear the most.  All the other stuff they don't hate and fear the most.  The number one thing that REPUBLICAN politicians hate and fear is some freshmen Senator making them go on record when it doesn't accomplish anything positive for the party or the American people.

Are conservatives so dense they don't know who the GOPe is?  Did we need one more vote to finally cement once and for all who we are?  OK here it is again...McConnell, Cornyn, Barrasso, Collins, Corker, Flake, Hatch, Johanns, Kirk, McCain, Murkowski, and Thune.  But that was all we could come up with to shutdown Cruz immediately.  They shutdown Cruz's glory so now the only people who know about it are the hardcore political junkies.

Picture a football team trying to win the big game.  Our GOP team has too many men on the field but the refs haven't spotted the error.  Not only would Tight End Cruz would be the player telling the ref, he'd be the one who is tackling Quarterback McConnell.  How long before the fans leave the stands?

When one Senator decides he is running the show it pisses off a lot of powerful GOPe. Cruz is damaging the party.  Conservatives better watch his back, along with the professional fundraising arms of an ever more exclusive and discredited extreme right wing.  I've read many predictions that the failure of Obamacare could spell the end of liberalism and the idea that government can take care of us is dead.  I think it's more likely that this is the moment when many people recognize the futility in demanding quick fixes, perfect candidates, and stop calling themselves Tea Partiers.

You can not lead the American people where they don't want to go

If Cruz had gotten his way in Oct nobody would be suffering under Obamacare and they would have no idea how dumb an idea it was.  They would only know Republicans took away their free healthcare and they would replace Republicans with rats who would restore their free healthcare only worse and harder to reverse.

Cruz has declared war on the GOPe which just gets bigger for every Rubio or Cornyn conservatives cast away.  Bring it.

True. Yet by doing his filibuster, he also hammered it into the heads of a lot of independents that the Republicans tried to keep them out of the swamp in the first place. With a single gesture, he made the center left think "Maybe they were right."

Every Obamacare based political ad should carry that point, as well as the point that "Not one Republican voted for it in the first place."

Incoherent argument. Two posts above. I'd like to give it a go, but how does one rebut gobbledygook?

I guess I'm just not as sophisticated as some political thinkers here, but I'll say this. When pretense becomes the coin of the realm it's evident we've lost our principles.

Politics as usual is killing the GOP with its voters, not Ted Cruz.

Yes the first 42 votes to repeal Obamacare didn't drive the point home.

Well said all the way around!

I particularly like this part!

"Politics as usual is killing the GOP with its voters, not Ted Cruz."

Of course I always like it someone speaks plainly and tells the unvarnished TRUTH!

It happened. So make use of it. Think the Dems would fail to do so? Unlike a House vote, it was a grand gesture that actually got noticed. Peter Mandelson (probably the best spinner ever) would be all over this, getting the message out and using it to set the narrative rather than permit a piecemeal response.

From The Washington Times, 1/27/2014:

Quote
Republican senators on Monday announced a sweeping plan to fix the most unpopular parts of Obamacare, ditching the individual mandate requiring Americans to have coverage but still offering taxpayer help for those looking to buy policies.

...

So, the GOP's plan is to have tax payer-assisted, over-regulated health care, but from the right. They want to "fix" the ACA.

The message there being that government expansion is OK, so long as it is "my guys" expanding it.

Well, that, and the unsettling notion that it wasn't so much that the GOP opposed the ACA, but that they detested the idea that it wasn't their idea.

Government's one consistent play, and I'm not discussing right wing/left wing stuff now, I'm talking about government (as we know it) in general, is to offer up a solution to a much ballyhooed problem or sets of problems that may not truly exist (the war on poverty being a perfect example. We cannot win a war on poverty, but it sure sounds good that we're fighting one. In fact, the number of impoverished in the US has increased since LBJ shot the war's opening salvo back in '64) and then when their solution exacerbates the original real or marketed problem and/or creates an entirely new set of problems, government again steps in with a solution to the new set of "problems".

The prohibitive cost of health care in the US is due largely to the actions of government, and the government's "solution" (the ACA) is making the health care costs higher by imposing higher regulatory costs on providers, and once again, as we ponder on the GOP establishment's announcement that they are going to fix the ACA, a problem that was created by a governmental solution to a problem brought about by a governmental solution to a problem is being proposed as a solution, and this new solution will eventually become the base of the problem that future political campaigns will use as their "theme".

It's a pretty efficient business model actually, and given the general clueless nature of the voting public, it's very effective.

Luis, both parties are corrupted. Socialism is the order of the day.

I stand with Cruz.

How many votes does it take to win a Presidential election?

Certainly there are millions of votes counted in a national election, but how many votes are actually needed to win one?

You need 270 votes from the electoral college.

To do that, you need to swing a few key States.

Nearly five million people lost insurance coverage due to the implementation of Obamacare, and millions more may lose their jobs or see their hours cut, and by extent, their incomes will be cut.

If I'm one of those people, I may very well see Ted Cruz's ill-fated stand as a positive thing from a politician who went to the mat in my behalf. If enough of those 4.7 million people who lost coverage because of Obamacare remember Ted Cruz's stand, some of those States may swing.

Kill the ACA and return to free market principles.  Health care was affordable before Hillary and Newt decided to screw with it... Obama, the Democrats AND the Republicans are all on the same page they just want to be the ones in control of us not have the other party they are not a member of control us....

They're not going to "kill" anything. Government never rolls back expansion.

Government never voluntarily releases power that it has seized.

They're going to "fix it".

Watch how the general attitude of the GOP will shift from "repeal" to "repair" and those members of the party who insist on continuing to pound on the "repeal" drums will be marginalized by the establishment.

I know that is what they are going to do, what I want is what they "should" do.
