Amazing how he survived the alcohol and drug abuse. He certainly was an original.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Sid Caesar's passing this week.

For those of you who have not had occasion to experience the man's unparalleled comedic genius, I offer but two examples of his work from the legendary early-1950s program, Your Show of Shows.

The variety program featured Caesar along with Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner, and Howard Morris, and was largely written by perhaps the most brilliant comedic team ever assembled: Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Danny Simon, Mel Tolkin, and performer Carl Reiner as well.

Sixty years later, I believe these early television skits still rank as some of the funniest stuff ever beamed into American homes. No curse words, no insults, no put-downs, no "edginess", no freak shows. Just pure comedy:

RIP, Isaac Sidney Caesar.
Liberalism isn't really about making the world a better place. It's about reassuring the elites that they are good people for wanting to rule over it.

These were comedians who understood comedy didn't have to be F this and F that to be funny.
