Glenn Greenwald’s new website launches – and crashes – in the same day

Posted By Giuseppe Macri On 5:16 PM 02/10/2014

Glenn Greenwald, the former Guardian journalist now infamous for breaking Edward Snowden’s National Security Agency surveillance leaks, launched his highly anticipated news website startup Monday – and it immediately proceeded to crash, multiple times.

The Intercept is the first official news outlet published by First Look Media, a journalism venture launched by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar with a mission “to convert mainstream readers into engaged citizens.”

Intercept launched with a breaking NSA story explaining how the agency’s surveillance data is used to make unconfirmed lethal drone strikes — an exclusive that’s undoubtedly been driving heavy traffic to the site all day, prompting it to crash intermittently while the bugs get worked out.

The site continued to experience problems as of Monday afternoon.
