Bachmann: If Immigrants Were Conservative, Obama Wouldn’t Want to Give Them ‘Amnesty’
by Matt Wilstein | 4:32 pm, February 7th, 2014

During a radio interview this week with Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) shared her views on the immigration reform debate, revealing what she believes to be the real reason President Barack Obama and other Democrats are pushing for a path to citizenship for the millions of undocumented immigrants who currently live in the United States.

Bachmann began by saying she thinks it would be a “terrible idea” to move forward with any immigration plan this year in Congress. “Let’s face it, if these were conservative Republicans coming here illegally,” she said, “the last thing Obama would do is seek to give amnesty and citizenship and and legal voting status to the people coming into the country.”

She proceeded to cite statistics that show 77% of Hispanics prefer a bigger government with more services. “It isn’t the conservative Republican immigration policy that immigrants don’t like,” Bachmann said, “it’s our stance on fiscal conservatism, the Constitution, patriotism, and the fact that we believe in limited government and personal responsibility.”

“From a political perspective, it’s a political suicide mission to be on the side of amnesty,” Bachmann continued, stressing that “immigration isn’t wrong,” but those who do immigrate legally need to “assimilate” into our country.

Before they moved on to another topic, Bachmann listed off one other problem she has with America’s current immigration policy. “One thing I’ve advocated a long time is to get rid of this mindless idea that if someone has a baby in the U.S. and the parents are illegal aliens, the baby should be given automatic status as an American citizen,” she said. “Mexico doesn’t do that and Honduras doesn’t do that. We should only give citizenship status to a baby born to legal American citizens.”

But by her logic, shouldn’t it be easier to “assimilate” those immigrant babies? Then, perhaps, one day, they would grow up to be conservative Republicans.

Ms. Bachmann is a bit of an embarrassment.

She speaks the truth.  Obama only wants them for their votes, nothing more.

Easier to assimilate, but still mostly bound to the ideals of the culture that reared them.  And, as citizens they have the right to vote, to SSI, to Medicaid, affirmative action, low income housing, subsidized Obamacare and a plethora of government benefits that we would absolutely love to provide.   They are at least three times as likely to grow up to be avowed Socialists as to be Conservative Republicans.  I would guess they are far more likely to go to jail than to be Conservative Republicans.

Ms. Bachmann is a bit of an embarrassment.

To whom? Certainly not me!

Since when is speaking the truth an embarrassment?

It is the in thing to bash this woman and call her a crazy stupid loon. Progressives tried it on Cruz until they saw his resume'.

Bachmann is not the embarrassment, Obama and the progressives surely are.

There is such a thing as telling the "Truth" and being politically harmful to your cause at the same time.

This sort of result occurs, because being "right" by "telling the truth" matters more than winning elections, and expanding your appeal to voters.

Bachmann might be "intelligent" but it is not common sense to ignore demographics, statistics, mathematics, etc.

And if the offspring of immigrants will be part of the voter pool you will need to compete in future elections, it is not a winning strategy to insult them.

There are probably a lot of people in America that self-identify as "conservative," yet vote for democrats because they perceive the GOP as the home of racial bigots.

They get such perceptions from expressions of "telling the truth" which might be better said in different ways, or not said at all; that is if you want to erase the misperception.

Let's get real, please.

Immigrants vote for whoever gives them a ride and a free pack of smokes and maybe a few bucks. This is an illegal voting practice you and I are now paying for with Obama's new freedom zones and ACORN types hustling illegals, legals, homeless on the streets. It is illegal, even if Obama writes an executive order, it is still illegal.

This has nothing to do with Bachmann or anyone for that matter, offending illegal or legal immigrants. They really could give a rats petard about America's politics. So Bachmann is simply saying Obama and the democrats are using immigrants. This reflects quite well on her intelligence because it is the truth.

How is it you read the headline and think it is racist or disparaging to immigrants, or Bachmann for speaking the truth? They are indeed being used. Tell me Reid was not re elected busing immigrants in to vote many times. Why is it that you think the democrats do not want Voter ID? Do you think they truly care about anything but winning?

Ms. Bachmann is a bit of an embarrassment.

More to the point, she is not the person who needs to be sending this message as she clearly does not command the National stage as her campaign for President clearly demonstrated.

I will wait for McCain to speak out and call out the democrats for using immigrants for votes.

Oh wait, it will never happen.

Same here.  Even a stopped clock is right twice a day and I'm sick of the criticism of Conservatives for speaking the flipping TRUTH!  And I say this as someone who dislike Bachmann.

Exactly. I am not her biggest fan either but this article got twisted around in meaning somehow.

Indeed she is.

Any Republican who dares speak the truth is now "an embarassment" to the GOP-e.

Better to shut up, obfuscate, and lie -- like that other party does!

[[ And if the offspring of immigrants will be part of the voter pool you will need to compete in future elections, it is not a winning strategy to insult them. ]]

It doesn't matter whether you insult them or not.

They're going to vote for the democrats anyway.

[[ There are probably a lot of people in America that self-identify as "conservative," yet vote for democrats because they perceive the GOP as the home of racial bigots. ]]

As soon as you use the word "bigot" to attack folks who believe the national heritage and identity of "America" as a nation is based on a Euro-Christian tradition, you lose your credibility. What's wrong with preserving that cultural and ethnic heritage?
Was the preservation of same not the specific policy of the U.S. government up until the 1960's?
Or do you think Ted Kennedy (a driving force behind the "immigration reform" of 1965) had the better idea?

Truth is truth.
Ms. Bachmann blurted it out.
Good on 'er !

Right on! Every word you said is true and the sooner we all realize that and learn how to fight fire with fire the better off we will all be!
