Family Reunions Scheduled for Late February

The two Koreas on Wednesday agreed to arrange reunions of families separated by the Korean War at the Mt. Kumgang resort on Feb. 20-25.

Red Cross officials from the two sides made the agreement when they met in the truce village of Panmunjom, the Unification Ministry said Wednesday.

One hundred people from each side will be able to meet relatives from the other side of the border. Their selection of the family members will be based on lists the two sides exchanged in September last year. They can be accompanied by helpers if necessary.

The event would be the first of its kind in three years and four months.

The location and accommodation were thorny issues in earlier talks prior to Chuseok or Korean Thanksgiving last year but proved no problem this time as the North accepted South Korea's suggestions.
