Obama Administration: Obamacare Means People Can “Pursue Their Dreams,” Not Work

Katherine Rosario | February 4, 2014

The Obama Administration’s latest argument for Obamacare is that some people don’t want to work, and Obamacare makes not working easier for those people.

This new spin comes conveniently in the wake of a Congressional Budget Office report demonstrating Obamacare will push about 2 million workers out of the labor market by 2017.

The liberals of the Obama Administration spun the new data as only they can.  Politico Pro reports (sub. req’d):

Instead, the Obama administration says, the health care law will allow people to choose to work less.

Under Obamacare, “individuals will be empowered to make choices about their own lives and livelihoods, like retiring on time rather than working into their elderly years or choosing to spend more time with their families,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said in a statement.

“At the beginning of this year, we noted that as part of this new day in health care, Americans would no longer be trapped in a job just to provide coverage for their families, and would have the opportunity to pursue their dreams,” Carney said in the statement. For good measure, he added that “the Republican plan to repeal the ACA would strip those hardworking Americans of that opportunity.” (emphasis added)

This is perhaps the most ideologically revealing statement the Administration has made about Obamacare yet.

Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties. And not to Democrats alone do I make this appeal, but to all who love these
great and true principles.

Oh, yeah, "funemployment" is so fun when you have no money to pay for the insurance mandates.

Then why are they so adamant about paying unemployment compensation? Just let them pursue their dreams. The same can be said of the generational welfare groups; let them pursue their dreams. We don't need money as long as we have our dreams.

I know a few people that this very aspect is a plus for them.

One of which has his own business during the day (running local P&D) but had to maintain a part time job at Fed Ex in the sort facility as a package handler just to have affordable insurance for his family.  He quit Fed Ex a couple weeks ago.  He can now be at home with his wife and kids at night, gets a lot more sleep, and is able to take contracts that he normally wouldn't be able to take which brings in more money to his business.  He's hoping by next year to be able to buy another truck and hire another driver.

That's 2 jobs.  The one he quit at Fed Ex that will give someone else the opportunity, and the one he will create by expanding his business.

Psst... hey, you.. yeah, you, the comic book artist.  Don't be a chump.  Stay home and draw cartoons.  We'll give ya a free Obama phone, two years unemployment, food stamps and free health care.  All ya gotta do is vote Democrat.  Who loves ya, baby?

It's the beginning of the full person movement so well shown on Star Trek:  The Next Generation.  You don't have careers you simply pursue your desires.
Why?  Well, because I'm a bastard, that's why.

you forget, Nazi Pelosi said unemployment compensation is good for the economy.  No one seems to agree with her but that is what she claims.

All of that and you did not mention what the replacement healthcare was. Your story makes no sense because even before the ACA: a self employed person/family could buy health insurance for just as reasonable price wise. Before ACA there was/is COBRA and it is an expensive joke.  Did your friend successfully sign-up and utilize their ACA/Obamacare yet? Many are finding the policy is bogus and no way to render payment.
