THOMPSON'S STATION, Tenn., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Conservative activist and former "Saturday Night Live" star Victoria Jackson says she is running for political office in Tennessee to "save America."

Jackson, 54, who moved to Thompson's Station, Tenn., last year, is petitioning as an independent to become a candidate for Williamson County commissioner, the (Nashville) Tennessean reported Tuesday.

"This is my first time running for office. I want to be an example to other moms, and regular folk to get involved in their local government. It's the only way we will save America," Jackson said in a message on her website Monday.
