Obama to Set Drug Offenders Free

How many times have you heard of someone being the victim of a mugging or home break-in committed by a drug addict?  Let’s face it; addicts commit a huge number of crimes against innocent people as they seek to find ways to pay for their habits.  Sadly, some of these crimes lead to the physical injury and even death of the addict’s victim(s).

However, President Obama and his Department of Injustice (DOiJ) headed by the top crook, err, I mean cop, believe that supposed non-violent drug offenders should be set free because they were unfairly sentenced under older guidelines, prisons are getting over-crowded and they aren’t a threat to anyone.

Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole, told attendees at a New York State Bar Association event that they want attorneys to send the White House a list of names of nonviolent drug offenders to be considered for clemency by the president.  The DOiJ says that prior to 2010, the sentencing for crack drug offences was overly harsh resulting in an 800% increase in the total number of prisoners in the US.

In 2010, Congress eliminated the disparity in sentencing for crack crimes over other drug related crimes.  But bleeding heart do-gooders still complain that it’s unfair for those sentenced prior to 2010 to pay the harsher penalty than given for the same crime today.  Cole stated:

“There are more low-level, nonviolent drug offenders who remain in prison, and who would likely have received a substantially lower sentence if convicted of precisely the same offenses today.  This is not fair, and it harms our criminal justice system.”

This follows Attorney General Eric Holder’s testimony on Capitol Hill earlier this week when he said that 30% of the DOiJ budget goes to the Bureau of Prisons.  He said that this money could better be used elsewhere for other law enforcement missions.  Did he mean other missions like Operation Fast and Furious where they send several thousand assault and assault-style weapons to the Mexican drug cartels?

If he’s complaining about his prison budget, then perhaps he should be spending time with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio instead of constantly trying to persecute him for investigating Obama’s birth certificate.  Some years back a judge told Sheriff Joe that he needed to start releasing prisoners because of overcrowding.  Sheriff Joe refused.  Instead, he erected Tent City and used guard dogs to patrol them.  He did away with TV until a judge said he had to provide it so he allowed one C-SPAN station only.  He stopped porn such as Playboy from coming into the jail.  He also lowered his costs by putting most prisoners on two meals a day rather than three and then made the meals to meet their bare minimum needs.  Instead of letting them sit around all day, he made both male and female prisoners work on chain-gangs.  In the long run, Sheriff Joe lowered his costs for inmates substantially and solved the over-crowding problem at the same time.

Instead, Obama and Holder want to start issuing clemency to who knows how many so-called nonviolent drug offenders.  They don’t care that a number of these new releases will go back to their ways of robbing people to pay for their habits.  But then when you consider how Obama is now endorsing the nationwide legalization of marijuana, it should be no surprise he wants to turn drug offenders loose.  Perhaps he’s counting on their votes in the upcoming elections?
