Officer Fatally Shoots Son After Son Attacks Own Mother

An off-duty Montgomery County police officer fatally shot his son after the son attacked his own mother inside their Gaithersburg home Wednesday evening, police announced at a press conference.

Crews responded to the officer's home in the 7400 block of Lake Katrine Terrace just after 8 p.m.

Officials say the officer's son, who was in his 20s, stabbed his mother and was later shot by his father. Both mother and son died from their injuries at an area hospital.

This property is located in the subdivision of Edinbergh.

The homes are no larger than a typical 3 bedroom 2-1/2 bath townhouse.

The reason?  When the subdivision was developed, mortgage rates rose to nearly 17%.  In order to sell the lots, they had to diminish the square footage of the living area so buyers were able to qualify for their loans.
