Now you can add Smith and Wesson and Ruger guns to the “not for sale in California” list.  You can’t buy this and you can’t buy that in California.

Why are Californians so complacent in the insidious incremental loss of freedom?

You can’t buy topical progesterone cream from Swansons, everyone’s favorite mail order vitamin place in Fargo, ND.

You can’t buy dishwasher detergent with phosphates in it.

There are too many clueless idiots in California who have elected a bunch of Marxist control freaks who want to micro-manage everything you buy, how you buy it.  They allow plastic diapers to fill California landfills, but they obsess over plastic grocery bags and are about to make them illegal?  It takes a warped mindset not to see the ludicrousness of that.

From Fox News.com:

A new gun law proponents say helps law enforcement has driven Smith & Wesson and Sturm Ruger out of California, and affirmed the suspicions of firearms rights advocates that the measure is really about making handguns obsolete.

The two companies have announced they will stop selling their wares in the nation’s most populous state rather than try to comply with a law that requires some handguns to have technology that imprints a tiny stamp on the bullet so it can be traced back to the gun. The companies, and many gun enthusiasts, say so-called “microstamping” technology is unworkable in its present form and can actually impair a gun’s performance.

“Smith & Wesson does not and will not include microstamping in its firearms,” the Springfield, Mass.,-based manufacturer said in a statement. “A number of studies have indicated that microstamping is unreliable, serves no safety purpose, is cost prohibitive and, most importantly, is not proven to aid in preventing or solving crimes.”

“This is the latest attempt to undermine the Second Amendment in California by politicians with little to no knowledge of firearms … “

- Chuck Michel, National Rifle Association

“The microstamping mandate and the company’s unwillingness to adopt this so-called technology will result in a diminishing number of Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistols available for purchase by California residents.”

Southport, Conn.-based Sturm Ruger also announced this month that they will also stop selling their guns in California due to the microstamping law.

Firearm microstamping, or ballistic imprinting, works by engraving a microscoping marking onto the tip of the firing pin. When the gun is fired, it leaves an imprint, usually of a serial number, on the bullet casings. The telltale mark theoretically allows law enforcement investigators to trace the bullet to the registered gun owner. California’s law is the first in the nation to be implemented and was originally signed into effect in October 2007, but not implemented until recently. Several other states are considering similar measures.

Law-enforcement is exempt from microstamping requirements.

Of course, cops are exempt – there is freedom for those who officiate over the police state of California.  I can’t wait for the Mexicans to outgrow the white liberal population and take over the whole state.  At least they have a basic understanding of what it means to live and let live.

This is a frighteningly short sighted law - I bet LEOs hate it.

Right now, many shooters are caught using the brass. Not from stamping, but from the partial prints left on the brass while loading. The heat of firing sets the print. Your average shooter never thinks of that, so leaves it laying there to be collected as evidence.

Now they are going to pull the trigger, then remind themselves to pick up the spent casing before they leave the scene. Just in case. Gang bangers may not be Einstein, but they are not stupid and pretty good at self preservation.

They will do as I'm sure they are already doing, get bullets and weapons from south of the border.

True - but it's the mindset. "Police your brass" is ingrained for some people. This law - because with micro-stamping you can never be sure - will ingrain it in minds you do not want to think of that.

Never mind that, in order to be effective, micro-stamping would require a national gun registry, similar to the National Print Registry (yours is FBI run, I believe).

Yeah, but the California Commies got what they wanted -  voluntary withdrawal from the state by two of our principal gun makers. Second hand gun control.
