Iran sending warships close to US borders

By Voice of Russia

Iranian warships headed for the Atlantic Ocean Tuesday to protect the country's cargo ships and oil tankers, navy officials said.

"Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is among the most important countries that takes responsibility for the security of the vessels which pass through the Gulf of Aden and Bab el-Mandeb strait," Iranian naval commander Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayyari said.

The effort marks the first time Iran has dispatched warships to the Atlantic Ocean, the Times of Israel reported.

The fleet includes a Kharg logistic warship, which is capable of carrying helicopters, and a Sabalan destroyer.

The fleet will travel to the Atlantic Ocean in the next three months, the Tasnim news agency reported.

Iran's naval forces have increased their presence in international waters in recent years, and has been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008 when Somali pirates hijacked an Iranian cargo ship.

Iran sending warships close to US borders

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- A senior Iranian naval commander says his country has sent several warships to the Atlantic Ocean, close to U.S. maritime borders for the first time.

The commander of Iran's Northern Navy Fleet, Admiral Afshin Rezayee Haddad, is quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying Saturday that the vessels have already begun the journey to the Atlantic Ocean via waters near South Africa.

Iranian officials said last month that the fleet consisted of a destroyer and a logistic helicopter carrier, which will be on a three-month mission.

Haddad says the fleet is approaching U.S. maritime borders for the first time. The Islamic Republic considers the move as a response to U.S. naval deployments near its own coastlines. The U.S. Navy's 5th fleet is based in nearby Bahrain.

One US destroyer could sink the entire Iranian surface fleet and be back in port in time for lunch.

One correction.  One US Destroyer could sink the entire Iranian surface fleet without ever leaving port in Norfolk....

That is a picture of USS George Washington (CVN-73) taken through the attack periscope of a US Los Angeles Class submarine.  The Chief of the Boat was a neighbor of mine when I was on Roosevelt, and we were at sea for our initial shake down cruise and were operating with his sub.  When the sub got a firing solution on TR, she popped up, fired a flare and snapped a picture of us in the crosshairs to prove it.  My friend gave me that polaroid shot as it was one of several.

The point is, we have many submarines at sea at any given time, and they don't call it "The Silent Service" for nothing.  They practice constantly as that picture proves.  Those Iranian ships are not a threat to the US in any way, but I guarantee you they are under constant surveillance and likely have been since they cleared port, and it won't be long until shap shots like that one will be circulating around in the proper circles.

Sleep tight America.  Your Navy is awake tonight.....

Not all of 'em are playing spades...I'm sure there is more than one crew running a track and updating a firing solution on these vessels as we chat.....

Weakness invites tests. Whether or not the Iranians are up to the challenge, they don't fear us.

I spent 3 yrs. and 4 months aboard Ranger.  I love pictures of her. :seeya:  Speaking of Ranger, we went through a Russian "trawling fleet" once at about 35 knots.  Needless to say those "trawlers" did a lot of bobbing in our wake. :dancer:  The trawlers were "fishing" for modifications that had been made after a yard period.

Have 3 sea service medals. Spent over 10 years working with various branches of the military.
Been on a Destroyer, and a Carrier, and all other kinds of ships.

But, with all that, I would not do it again today. I do not trust Obama or the American government. I do not trust that they have our interests or the interests of America in mind.

With a guy named 'Hussein' running the show, with his 'mommy' Jarrett (who is Iranian), I have no faith. Of course I feel for the guys who are still in this mess, but I must say, I am glad to be out.

Iranian ships off shore, I'm sure Obama and his ilk, would run out to the shore and wave at them. Maybe invite them in for dinner. (hallal, of course)

It is not above the realm that he produce his own "Gulf of Tonkin" incident, in concert with the Iranians.

It could be the poor guy's plan to spur support for his failed [read:astonishing successful] strategies and programs.

Nothing like a major shooting war to bring Americans together behind their president.

Yeah, I'm counting on it. I mean to say that I agree. Before Hussien steps down there will be some big war. McCain is chomping at the bit to get into some war somewhere. And McCain is doing Obama's bidding. They tried to get us into Syria, but Putin outsmarted them.

Something is going to happen. I get the impression that Obama is trying to enlist Putin and Russia into either going along with or staying out of some major endeavor. But Putin so hates Obama that these efforts are not succeeding.

It is my firm belief that Obama's ultimate goal is to wipe out Israel. In Islam, that would be his ultimate trophy. I want Debbie Schultz, and all the other moronic Jewish Liberals, to tell me again how much she loves her beloved 'Hussein' once he starts bombing Tel Aviv.

Something which I believe is not off the table, in fact, I think it is actually likely.

I was aboard the Ranger when Israel had a plane hijacked and taken to Entebbe, Kenya.  Our battle group was sent into the Indian Ocean and there met a Russian destroyer squadron.  It looked like we operating alone out there but as soon as the Russian ships came in sight, a U.S. destroyer was on the fantail of each Russian ship, about 100 yds behind and stayed there until we transited out of the Indian Ocean.  We were doing about 25 kts. east so they started following us but as soon as they hooked up to refuel, our CO turned the squadron south at the same speed.  The Russians followed us and again tried to unrep and the captain turned back west.  An so it went for about a week.
